3D blu-ray playback coming to PS3 via firmware 3.5 on Sept 21st

Im sure some have you have spent over a grand on tv,s so this price for a hd 3d tv is a bargin considering i DONT own a HD tv :p
I was going to wait even longer for oled panels to get cheaper but thats a few years off yet .

Im sure more titles will use 3d and for the people who say it is not that good try dropping in a sony shop and play stardust HD 3D it might just change your mind .

none, 3d is stupid i dont understand why it has so much hype...

Really clever, I dont understand why people like you bother commenting in places discussing such. If you dont like it fine but many AV fans even on AVF are enjoying 3D a great deal.

My main concern is particulary LED or LCD panels response times are much worse than Plasma's. Some are accoringly 35-40ms compared to Plasma around 10ms in 3D
Has lag been an issue for people here.

WEBBER

How have you found the 2D-3D conversion with some games?

i posted to voice my opinion, and esentially get an answer back as to why it has so much hype. i think its completely pointless, but thats me... no reason to get defencive about a piece of software/hardware :D

cross talk is the main issue with lcd/led's in monsters vs alien is very noticable when there are virtical images, the plasma are much better. i quite fancy 3D and can get a 50'' sammy for a good price at work, but i want to wait till eurogamer to see how the games really look.

Its funny but I read somewhere about a few complaining about how Sony take away...

Yet, here we are a few years on and the PS3 has given -

in game trophies
3D Gaming support
3D BD Playback support
motion sense move camera
motion controller
Force Feedback controller
Vidzone
Sony Home
BBC iplayer, in partnership with BBC

and all they've taken away is -

Using USB to enable homebrew, you can't blame them
Linux support - I was a bit on the fence with this
some USB slots and card reader support on newer models

The only one I thought they took away that would have been nice was PS2 support.

Sony have given a lot to the PS3, it has been a very good machine in terms of getting support from Sony. When first released it was to be honest ahead of its time. It was a machine that still needed work, but 2010 and Sony have, to be fair done a good job getting a very sub standard console back up to scratch.. This will go down in history as the recovery of the century in the games console market..

I'm sure there are lots more Sony added that I forgot.

Oh, PSN store gets better and better, PSN + as it does give some rather decent games each month for a one off payment of £40

Free online network...

Call me a Sony fanboy, if you must, but i just love the PS3.. It gives so much where the others fail. Multi console ownership is another + for the PS3. If anyone wants more than one of the same console in the same house, then the PS3 is the way to go !

GT5 3D Photo mode, that alone could have me sold and of course Ive waited on this 3D movie support update for PS3.

Trying to imagine what the game will be like with those rain effects and facetracking in 3D, mmmm.
Well hopefully if not from TGS it will be on show at EG in full finished form.

Sorry for OT but I think we need a 3DTV game thread started and having input from the few but lucky 3DTV owners here on the forums.
Your feedback and views would be greatly appreciated and what games are good or not so good.

ok, the update was released this morning and I had quick taz before going to work - and I'm impressed !!. No sign of crosstalk and the 3D effect was pretty good. I'll hopefully watch the entire film tonight and see what the experience is like over the course of an hour or so.

Hi, webber thanks.

Although heres news on it...
"As announced last week (see Blu-ray.com, September 16), new firmware version 3.50 is now available for the PlayStation 3, which enables support for the Blu-ray 3D specification on all incarnations of the PS3 console. However, Sony Computer Entertainment has confirmed that DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD won't be supported on the PS3 during 3D Blu-ray playback.

Thus, when playing back a 3D BD with a DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack, the PS3 will output DTS. When playing back a 3D BD with a Dolby TrueHD soundtrack, the PS3 will output Dolby Digital. This affects both PCM output and bitstreaming (available on slim consoles only).

As previously reported (see Blu-ray.com, September 14), BD-Java on the PS3 is also limited when playing back 3D BD content.

Joshua Wingfield, Blu-ray.com news contributor and moderator of the 3D subforum, posted an early hands-on report and informed: "I can confirm that with the Ps3 3.50 firmware update it only puts the audio out as DTS standard (lossy) in the bitstream mode. Also the menus on Coraline are flattened to 2D. Subtitles still show up in 3D mode, and so do menus. The image just flattens. Standard DTS is output by bitstream and linear PCM works as well but it still shows it as lossy DTS in the info bar on the PS3. So for now 3D on the PS3...full 1080p to each eye, but no HD audio and no 3D on menu screens or pop up menus. Can't say I'm disappointed. The update was free and the speed on the PS3 doesn't seem to be affected."

* Still look forward to your comments in general about the PS3 games and what if any games surprised you in 2D-3D conversion.

don't think its fanboyism, but as much as the PS3 can do outside of gaming it is afterall a gaming console and the xbox360 has many titles that folks want to play - reason the xbox360 sells so well.*

Still PS3 has some good games as well as all the addtional features, anyhow 3D blu ray update applied to my PS3 this morning, still think at this moment the one thing Sony have got right is this PS3 move kit..

Honestly though it would be a bag of rubbish, but it's pleasantly surprised me and its like that Batman Arkham game. You think it'll be a load of tosh, but actually its very good.

Does anyone who has updated their PS3 to 3.5 have an XCM Cross Battle adapter? I've been reading that this firmware has knackered third-party controllers and some other USB devices! :O

I learned my lesson with 3.4, and a LOT of others learned theirs with 3.2... wait until 3.51 comes out. :D

My Netflix still isn't working properly after the 3.4 update. :(

I have a Sony 3D TV. I got a free code when I registered it to download some 3D games off of the Playstation Network.

The PS3 does indeed provide 3D over its HDMI 1.3 output.

I cannot wait for the release of Gran Tourismo 5 has this has stereoscopic 3D :D I cannot wait for that :D
