So I've got 2 years to plan and save for this, and it's gonna be good. I'm thinking not your average "traveling" escapade to Aus and nearby, but an adventure that'll show me the sights, events, and breathtaking cities of the whole world.

To give you an idea of what I'm looking at, here's what I have so far on my list of destinations:

  • Pyramids and other ancient Egyptian ruins
  • Great Wall of China
  • Roman Colosseum
  • Chichen Itza / Maya ruins
  • Northern Lights
  • An assortment of USA national parks incl Grand Canyon
  • An undecided peak climb
  • African Serengeti / safari
  • Moscow
  • Tokyo
  • German Oktoberfest
  • Get to the top of a massive building
  • That massive Jesus Christ statue in Rio (and perhaps the carnival too)
  • A beautiful tropical island near the equator
  • Niagara Falls or similar

So what I'm hoping for is your experiences or recommendations for places you've been to and though "wow". Also tips and opinions. Go!

how can you leave the incan trial and Machu picchu off. I would also want to do some of the crazy events/festivals. like the one in Spain where two villages fire thousands of fireworks at each other.
Or the moon beach parties in Australia.

  • Pyramids and other ancient Egyptian ruins - a must do
  • Great Wall of China - like this + oriental culture.
  • Roman Colosseum - easily done but not big of a deal tbh and Italy is very expensive.
  • Chichen Itza / Maya ruins - a must do as well
  • Northern Lights - if you find the sort of thing attractive then yeah I guess
  • An assortment of USA national parks incl Grand Canyon- No, waste of time, don't go to the US.
  • An undecided peak climb - if you're fit enough, may I suggest to visit Tibete, just to see the monks and the culture. If not then I guess Mt Fuji in Japan
  • African Serengeti / safari - If you can handle the heat and like animals, then this would be pretty cool otherwise no.
  • Moscow - St Petersburgh would be better imo.
  • Tokyo - definetely, japanese culture + Mt fuji if you want to climb it.
  • German Oktoberfest - Germany is so close to home but yeah it would be pretty cool.
  • Get to the top of a massive building - Then maybe you could go to Dubai
  • That massive Jesus Christ statue in Rio (and perhaps the carnival too) -Cristo Redentor, Rio de Janeiro is amazing, just be carefull.
  • A beautiful tropical island near the equator - Barbados, Jamaica?
  • Niagara Falls or similar - I would go to the Amazons or some place in south america and avoid US/Canada

How can you possibly say its a waste of time to go to the US, some of the natural history there is absolutely staggering. What a strange thing to say.

Exactly what i was thinking as well:confused:...having been to the Grand Canyon myself OP...i would definitely definitely recommend going there along with Yosemite and a few of the other national parks if you can.

America is a beautiful place...not going there to see its many wonderous sights would be an absolute shame.

If I had the opportunity to do a round the world trip, here's what my route would be (not sure how many stops you can have, but meh).

London
New York
Grand Canyon
Chichen Itza
Machu Pichu
Rio
South Africa
Egypt
Delhi (Taj Mahal)
Ladakh
Ulan-bataar
Beijing
Tokyo
St. Petersberg
Stockholm

If you had more stops/time, I'd squeeze in Canada, New Zealand, and Switzerland as well

I would leave out Europe. If you live in the UK it's easy enough to go on short breaks another time. Spend more time/money visiting places you can't so easily travel to on individual trips.

You have to include New Zealand.

The tour buses don't take you there as it is a little NZ secret, but you have to go to Hamner Springs. Google image some pics. It is incredible.

Same goes for Milford Sound.

If you can get to Cape Town, South Africa, then do it - most amazing place in the world IMO! Very, very beautiful and full of history and culture if you want it!

The USA is definetley not a waste of time, but there is so much here you'll be hard pushed creating a short list.

USA west coast , south america , make your way down the amazon , fly to south africa , make your way up the nile , train through eastern europe towards china , doss about in asia , home

I've spent the last 6 months in North America, what's so great about it?

Bad food
rude people
modern retarded squared looking buildings
No old architecture
Capitalist culture

Honestly, why would he spend money going to the US when he could go to Egypt, Peru, Japan, Tibete, India, etc?

The natural history. The whole country is teeming with it. Places like the Grand Canyon, the deserts, Yellowstone National Park, Yosemite National Park, the Florida Keys, the Pacific Coast, it's all jaw droppingly beautiful.

It's a fantastic place and I feel really sad you've been lucky enough to spend 6 months there and have not bothered to appreciate it at all, few will get the chance you've had.
