You buy the game based on gameplay, not who is on the cover. :)

Why Rooney thou! Why not Frank Lampart or John Terry! I am sick of seeing that fat ugly looking troll in my games! I would rather see David Beckham.

im sure EA are also basing it on the mums and dads who pickup these games for their kids whilst getting the weekly shopping. Especially at a time like this, wayne rooney is probably the most recognisable player in the world.

TBH franco, EA doesn't make it's money by taking the opinion of people on forums on which hunk they want to see on the cover of FIFA so they can fully utilise the wipe clean case.

Should you wish to have Beckham at arm's reach when you buy FIFA 11, may I suggest a quick Photoshop and print job?

Possibly, maybe thats why Konami have Messi on the cover for pes.

Some clueless Mum or Dad buying their kid a football video game - 'Oh look, the worlds best player is on that game cover. The game must therfore be really good'

Anyone who doesn't follow football will think Wayne Rooney is a legend of the likes of Maradona, Eusebio or Pele :p

For those who can't be bothered to click on links, it's fifa 06, 07, 08, 09, 10 and 11. Rooney is on all of them.
 
why such a fuss? rooney signed a sponsorship deal with ea (just like messi and konami) so he can be on the cover for X amount of years. whatever people think he might be, he is one of the most popular and well known player in the world and he helps sells the game.

it costed ea lots of money to stick him on the cover and they are making more money because of it. so why should they change?
 
After all the recent rumours of the prostitute perhaps he might not make the cover of next years fifa?

Personally I dont care whos on the cover because all I can see is the spine of the case when its on my shelf. Its the best footie game so that's my main reason for purchase.
 
As someone else mentioned, I'd also like to see the FIFA games take the Madden route where the outstanding player from the last season gets to be on the cover.

As for why it's Rooney, he is one of the better and most recogniseable players in the EPL, playing for the best supported team (probably) so it makes marketing sense. And he did have a good season last season.
