Ideas for new CPU cooler?

Hey guys, could I get a few opinions on a good performing socket 775 CPU cooler to replace an arctic freezer pro 7?

Preferably not overpriced but something worth the money, £45 tops.

Case dimensions are 430 (h) x 200 (w) x 440 (d)
 
just got the gelid tranquillo for one of my friends pc knocked 12c off the idle temps in a case with bad airflow think its well worth as its £10 more than your current cooler but £10 cheaper than those mentioned above

edit: shame its out of stock
 
i was looking at the akasa one i quite like the yellow fan design, and ah. :( guess it wont be that one then haha

OCUK is not the only online store to sell them :p

It was there last week so guess EOL for the new one, anyway even so a Prolimatech Megahalems Rev B CPU Cooler is on par and an extra £4 over what the TRUE was sold at :)

Again you will not need to upgrade the cooler for a long time even going to another current socket in future

True but if its only cooling a dual core at not crazy volts a really crappy fan just to move the air will do maybe even passive if he has good air flow. Quad core could be different story :D
 
I don't mind shelling a few extra quid if I know I'm going to get a quality product :)
Btw how much are said fans for the Megahelms?
 
LOL the Prolimatech Megahalems is going to set you back nearly £80 by the time you buy decent fans and thermal paste. There are loads of decent coolers out there for £45 that come with everything he needs so why bother trying to convince him to spend nearly twice his budget for a cooler that will only shave a couple of degrees?

I agree with post #5 the Gelid Tranquillo is an excellent HSF solution for the OP.
 
£80, not quite. I agree it will certainly go above the OP's stated £45 - but he seems OK with shelling out a bit more if its worth it.

If you go for a megahalems (£43) and a good quality PWM 120mm fan (£14). The megahalems comes with thermal paste and it is actually really good (MX-3 standard), OCUK have been using it on their overclocked systems. Therefore this brings the total cost to £57 (£12 over budget).
 
Supporter of the Megahalems here - got one cooling a q9650 running at 4ghz with push/pull Apache fans. Does a very good job of keeping things cool and quiet.

Would mention that Custom PC is reviewing cpu coolers this month and the winner was , by some distance, the Thermaltake Frio.Only problem(s) are not sold here and it was not tested with s775 so cannot be sure it would cool as well as on others.

Most people who buy the megahalems use the fans you linked but have them in push/pull configuration so that's £28 just in fans granted you don't have to buy new thermal paste but that would still bring the whole package in at about £71 (£7 for thermal paste hence why I quoted £80) but even at £57 it's still getting expensive. Granted it’s great at what it does and if you want an air cooler and the lowest temps I would most likely get this setup but in terms of value for money and cost/performance…………..?
 
The TRUE, still one of the best cpu coolers despite it's age, swapped one out for a megahelims and the difference was miniscule.
