I have neither of these games consoles but I want to get one yet I can't decide which one to get? I really don't know much about them so any help would be great. Just really so I can play online with mates.

Xbox as the analogue sticks are in the correct position.

I used to prefer the Xbox pad due to me having big hands but after playing MW2 on the PS3 for the last few weeks I now prefer the PS3 pad and didn't like the feel of the Xbox pad as much when I had to use it to play Halo Reach earlier.

Only if your thumbs are abnormal.

word

the closer gran turismo gets the more i think about swapping my xbox for a ps3

i find accuracy on the left thumbstick terrible and the d pad is like something from fisher price

what sort of game do you like OP ? as the exclusives could decide things.

PS3 has Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and this is one of the best looking and without doubt one of the best games ever released on a playstation system....

Killzone 2, Heavy Rain, GOW III or GOW collection, Wipeout HD and the Move controllers not to mention free online gaming such as PSN, decent media playback and a bluray player with wireless and optical out with a controller that doesn't need additional battery charger the PS3 is a good value for money machine...

You can get a move bundle for less then £260 I thnk...

but then the xbox360 does have forza 3 and a better but paid for online service...xbox360 also has Halo etc...

Need to work out what games you'd like to play.. and if you want to play online and with who....

I'm about to sell up and switch to the Sony camp.

I enjoyed the 360 and despite hating console controllers since the NES days, really liked the MS one. Trouble was I found myself only playing Mass Effect since I left Forza 3 behind, which never really got the support from the Devs that it needed. Then with ME2 thoroughly beaten, I realised nothing else on the platform appealed to me.

Now I'm looking forward to seeing what all this Gran Turismo lark is all about, and a stand alone blu-ray player might be useful too.

If your going to get a PS3 you can get a 320gb one for £239.99 along with the move starter pack well worth picking up.

TBH you will enjoy either off them, best way is to have both so you dont miss out on exclusives which are normally the games that showcase the hardware the best.
Choose on games you like to play, what friends have, and other features the console gives you. For example is having a better implemented online system that you pay for (albeit not much) worth more than say a stand alone BD player. Good deals going about for both consoles so dont ever buy at full price, shop around, many stores have as good offers as online without the hassle if it goes wrong.

If you don't own a blue-ray player I would definitely buy a PS3. I can't think of any reason to buy an Xbox 360 over a PS3 unless you are a die hard Halo fan.

Why not get both? There are lots of good deals on Xbox 360 Elites (The pre-slimmer version), secondhand these are under £100.. I've also see PS3 Phats for around the same price (40Gb)..

I personally play more on the 360, but that's not a huge reflection on the PS3, I just have mates who play on the 360 heavily, I'm quite social, and the whole Xbox Live Party stuff really allows for easy seemless interaction with my mates..
I've just bought my 4th PS3, and looking forward to GT5, I'm playing UC2 and KZ2 etc, and enjoying them.
I do miss the Party Chat a bit, in fact I've sometimes fired up the 360, jumped in a party and played on the PS3..

I still prefer the 360 controller, always have, always will, but don't exactly cry over the PS3's dual shock, it's just a bit form over function, but it works..

End of the day, if you have lots of mates on PS3, then how can you buy anything else? playing/chatting online with mates massively adds to the fun of playing games..

PS3 if you've got no life, no friends a small dick and like bad games. If you're a functioning human and others consider you awesome then grab a 360.

At the end of the day, it is very much of a muchness. Both consoles have similar titles available (read 99% the same). Both consoles have a similar life expectancy (due to be superceded within the next 3 -4 years) both have similar motion capture control type devices. XBox has LastFM, Twitter, Facebook and Sky and the Zune library of movies is set to increase by x10 before Xmas. I cannot comment on the PS3 as I dont own one. Yes the PS3 has a slightly better processor and its graphics tend to be marginally better.
Failure wise the new skinny XBoxes are supposed to be much better than the older boxes with their RROD, but I have as many friends with PS3s who have had PSU or BluRay drive failures on their consoles.
I think that the Sony CrossBar system is quite nice and streaming to a PS3 is, in general better than to an XBox 360.

Both boxes have their pros and cons and as many have said, get what your mates have, it makes for a far better gaming experience.

It is also worth noting that if you want to game online with an XBox360 you will need a XBox Live Gold Subscription which is about £30 per year.

Whatever you buy, I dont think that you will be disappointed, both are very good, fun systems

Please excuse the post above mine, he does not represent most XBox users, the majority of people that I play with from the OCUK community are nice friendly people who dont normally stoop to puerile fanboism

You mean if you lack the intelligence to recognise the PS3's capabilities, grab an xbox?

Anyway, as said, friends are probably the main deciding factor, so probably go with whichever most friends play. As for the online services, I've never understood the hype about xbox live. Having been a user of live for years, only the private chat function is anything I give a crap about. Other than that the experience of both consoles online services are so much the same you will curse microsoft for making you pay for theirs.

As for games, well my favourite games of all time (Uncharted games) are on PS3, and Gran Turismo will hopefully be great too. Not that the xbox doesn't have good games, like Gears of war, halo I guess if you are in to it, etc. Point being, both have their fair share.

However in terms of what 'future proofing' there is for consoles, I would firmly back the PS3 with its blu-ray, the new update allowing 3D blu-ray play-back, and the fact that if developers got off their backsides a bit more, the PS3 should graphically blow the xbox back into another age. (see Uncharted for a hint). Not that graphics are the be all and end all quite rightly...just my opinion as I do like them to look good :p

You're probably thinking I sound awfully fanboy here, but that is not my intention as I have both consoles and both are good at doing what they do which is playing games, I simply prefer the PS3 overall and see it as the better technology and more future-proof.

Main thing to consider is your enjoyment, and this usually comes from the one that most friends play.
