All I know about them is that they are quite heavy, but has anyone here had one or been in one. It's not like I've never seen one before, but yhey aren't too common around here. I parked next to one this evening and couldn't help but admire it - I think they look great.

No help here but i think they look great, there used to be one around here but i haven't seen it in a while...just make sure the one you get is white!!!.
:D

Well there pretty quick, 240bhp and 4WD.

Usual jap turbo of that age, goes well, but interior is awful and they look a bit dated now.

My mind is always open to new ideas, but it was never £3k :P

Its quite unlikely I'd like a GT4 being 4WD, but I'm curious to find out what people think of them, as they aren't too common.

I wouldn't mind one as a toy in a few months/years. I've heard rumours that you can pick up the odd (rough) example for far less than a glance at the classifieds would indicate - Apparently a few have traded hands for around the £1,500 mark!

Seem to remember that both the Clutch and cambelt as engine out jobs though?

Again, from what I can remember they run the revised 3SGTE lump found in Rev 3+ MR2s which is an excellent engine. Loads of potential for cheap and easy power, if that's your sort of thing ;).

I had one for 3 years, what do you want to know?

Erm... Everything!

They're cars that really interest me but I've never done any "in-depth" research (other than finding out the possibilities of re activating the Anti Lag on WRC models :D).

Lad at work has one that he's had bits sorted on it running about 300bhp I think. Spent a bit on it, was looking at getting rid and getting a focus ST, and even put it up on pistonheads but couldn't bring himself to get rid of it. From what he's said they like to munch tyres and they're a bit heavy on the brakes. If he told meanything elusive forgotten!

Doesn't cymatty here have a rather nice one?

Possibly, GT4 pimp time :o

First things first, if you value having a turbo DO NOT reactivate the anti lag!

Well, need to narrow it down a little - they are fast, handle well, are thirsty, reasonably practical, crappy interior and require the front suspension replacing every 60k miles or so!

I had a hoot with mine whilst I had it, only did a couple of light mods (upped boost to 1 bar, intake, decat and full exhaust) and had a rolling road printout for 280HP, Used to get about 250-280 miles to a 60l tank. Only got rid cause I wanted something a bit more refined as 90% of my driving was going up and down A roads.

Do the above, plus front mount off an Evo and you'll have a pretty quick car. My brother has one with the above stuff done to it.

PS. Beware of an f'ed clutch.

Cost my brother a lot of money to get the clutch done! And the whole super strut suspension is a pain in the arse!

I also believe the figure of 8 suspension links are a common fault on these. I was considering buying one about 4 years ago but never really had the finances.

I love the look of them, the road presence they give off is awesome, however, me and the GT4 just dont seem to 'get on'. My first drive of one was about 8 months ago, a red low milage that had the usual bolt on's for a 3sgte, probably putting out 280-300bhp, it felt fine the power and speed was there, they are chuckable around the bends however I just found it boring. I had that car for about a week and everytime I went out I physically felt sick  and couldnt wait to finish the journey.

A few months have past and I thought it could have just been that particular car, so took a punt and bought one to sell on again... The feelings are still there with this one too..... Its still for sale!

You don't really need a front mount as the chargecooler is good for up to 400hp. Anything over about 300 is really past the 'bolt on' stage so will start to get expensive. You really don't want to run more than 1 bar on a standard engine else stuff starts letting go. I managed to crack my block when my old boost controller failed and the car overboosted, these things have a metal headgasket so I got a nice 2" crack between cylinders 2 and 3. :(

Front suspension is a complex super strut design that starts to knock and get a bit flimsy after about 60K. To replace will cost about £800 each side.

www.gt4oc.com or www.celica-club.co.uk is a good place to get started.

I don't think they're TOO pricy to run, buy in or insure in comparison to Imprezas, Evos etc, except the front suspension which is quite complicated and expensive to replace.
