O2 LLU - What are my chances?

I am still waiting for my MAC.

It sucks they can hold the whole process up like this. What takes so long?

I would be phoning up and kicking off, mention Ofcom to them. Might get things rolling more quickly.

Kick off big style. A MAC code can be generated in minutes if you speak to the right people, customer service more than likely wont have access to generate them, it will be some sort of back office team.

I have contacted them and complained. All they say is that oftel say it can take 5 working days and that It's got to be processed by the wholesaler.

Because BE seem to be the ones who provide better support, IIRC they offer more ability to customise and change more line profiling settings than O2 will do, they seem less bothered about caps, traffic shaping and whatnot, there is a better forum community with useful staff posting on there that work for BE and will gladly help you out on the forums and even change settings for you on the forum without you having to go through the support portal and raising a ticket. They have an approach where they want to be "different" from most other ISP's in the fact that more and more ISPs are enforcing rules here and there, whereas BE have that unique "we will give the customers what they want that no other ISP can give them" approach.

I guess if you download 30gb a month its not going to make much difference. However BE seem a more flexible ISP IMO

You have a similar line profile to me Fox. My attenuation is slightly less (around 60 to 61db) and with BE unlimited and a Netgear DGN2000 router I'm able to get around 2.7Mbit/s resulting in a download speed of around 300Kbps (i've had it synch higher and got around 330Kbps) but it soon settled at a lower synch speed. This is with AnnexM and ADSL2+. Upstream is about 900kbit/s

I'm paying through the nose though £26.49 through ADSL24 as a reseller. It sucks to have a long line from the exchange.... :(

Why are you using AnnexM on such a long line?

I was told it improved the upload speed......

But if you are on a long line or a bad quality line, its not the best idea surely  as

1) your not going to see any improvements on upload anyway
2) its not going to do your downstream rate any favours

Ahhh ok. In that case if I can turn it off I will :) Thanks for the heads up.

02 provide a good service but they are changing their service specs. Check them out you may want to take advantage of the 30 day opt out. Be has now been made their "Professional service - otherwise there would be little point in its existence. BE are more expensive check out which is going to meet your needs.- your line is not the best it may be improved by having a filtered master socket and checking over the internal wiring.
