This Is England '86

The whole 'running around wedding scenes' was pointless. Very good episode though. I'll miss the show :/

Best thing since Shameless. Had me on the edge of my seat, pure class.

Really didn't like the last episode! That was truly sickening to watch, heres hoping he gets a hammer taken to him in the next episode!

Hey, your either a prophet or you found the lost script on a bus some where :)

Good series but could have done with this last episode being a bit longer and fleshed out more .. hope they do another one with the same characters, mint to watch.

Shaun said in an interview (zoo) he would love to a 90's scene, pills and house music.

Hope something comes out of it.

This weeks was the same as the last one apart from some self defense and a death. Well, 2 actually. The other characters were just wasted running around for a wedding that never happened and the bride didn't even know about it!

A poor end to the series but I'm glad the dad got his comeuppance. And I feel Combo was back just for the sake of it.

The whole episode, especially Combo's return, was about redemption, as the man said himself "let me do a good thing", and he was right.

The fight between Lol and her father didn't gel with me, I know it was her effectively losing control, but it just came across a little wooden to me. As to the rape, I was secretly wanting to see Kelly come in and cave in his skull, but now, she gets to stay the innocent flower (until I gets my hands on her, I'll corrupt her good and proper.. *nudge nudge wink wink say no more*).

Overall, that was an epic mini series and i wish it was going on, they had too much to fit in last nights episode and there's been a lot left open and same as the film, the ending was a bit sudden i think. Those rape scenes were brutal and hard to watch but really portray what i'd imagine it would really be like. There was a bit of everything in the series, comedy, tension etc, but my favourite bits were the mass fight scene and Gadget with the older woman (forget her name). I would have liked to have seen more of Combo though. He was excellent in the film and i recognise his face from something else but can't think what.

Overall, 10/10, best TV this year by a country mile. Can't wait for the 90's one if it does fabricate.

Definitely a case of Combo ex machina.

I think if I watched every episode back to back the finale might not seem so disappointing but there really wasn't enough there to justify a whole hour's television.

I enjoyed the series, however felt that it was dragged out too much for 4 episodes. Either should have put more content into it and made it ~8 episodes or have 2 longer episodes.

Excellent series and I hope it returns again as another "86" or something simular.

However, I am a bit disappointed slightly that Combo did not feature in it as much as I thought he would have done but because this series was only 4 episodes they had to fit a lot in. Anyway I think the way his part went was well written and fitted in well... in my opinion it's like he's gone to jail for what he did to Milky in the film too as well as covering up for Lol.

Funniest parts has got to be the Casuals crew especially flip... made me laugh loads of times and also Gadget.

Overall, definately a 10/10 for me and also the best thing on TV this year. I really hope that Meadows does return with another This Is England either still in the 80's or 90's.

That's how this series made me feel!! best drama on tv for years (Yes a little contrived and a bit of over egging on inocence but hey Shakespeare understood those prinipals perfectly;) )

Liam

He was probably filming for boardwalk empire as well so couldn't have.

The other question of course, is who next?

This is England, was essentially Shaun's story, though of course it was about all of them, it centred on Shaun.

This is England '86, was about Lol, and her struggle with her own inner demons, another reason that Combo wasn't in it much, she never really liked him, it was only at the end, when she needed him, and he was there, that he came into the story.

So, who do we hit next? I'm guessing that Harvey would be good for a 89 rave culture.

So I watched the film and '86 for the first time last night. Brilliant stuff, though I felt that the film was much better since it was smack bang in the middle of unstable times and the film portrayed a gritty account of misled youth. The series is more light hearted and it felt a bit like Skins set in the 80's (though it's several magnitudes better than that dross). I'd give the film a 10 and the series a 9.

Also Lol and Kelly are freakin' stunning.
