HTC Desire HD (Ace)

Is on vodafone for pre-order, but when did they drop the data rate to under a GB??

Completely stupid, if I was a new customer I would look straight away at the next carrier. As it stands, I'm currently with them so will barter for a decent contract tomorrow.

Companies should be looking to push the data limits, not cap them more, under 1GB is simply stupid.

I dont see why its stupid though as long as there is an option to increase that number. There are loads of people with smart phones who don't get near 500mb usage a month while there are others who use way over.

I don't think they are putting the limits down to 1GB for s***s and giggles... no doubt it's because the networks can't handle it which is why pretty much all the carriers have done it?
Went into the Voda shop and they said it's on the system so usually available to buy in 2weeks time? Fingers crossed, I'm in the upgrade zone!

just pre-ordered mine on upgrade...thanks to a my wifes work we get a 20% discount on monthly plans so its actually cheaper than the crappy tocco ultra its replacing..funny how quickly tech moves on

I know that swype on phones like these helps a lot with writing normal text, but how good is it to use an onscreen keyboard for non-regular text, such as typing commands into a terminal that will often use symbols? Would I be better off going for the Desire Z for the keyboard, or will that keyboard also lack all of the 'useful' buttons that are used in termianl commands.

Well Vodafone didn't want my custom again, they basically quoted the deals on their website for the HD. They wouldn't even up the internet usage up to a 1GB on the lower packages.

'Down to 1GB'? Vodafone's Desire deals were mostly 1GB, but now the HD is mostly listed as 500MB.

Load on the networks is probably increasing as smartphones become more popular, but surely the answer is to boost capacity, rather than reduce allowances to levels that many would hit without batting an eyelid.

This trend of restricting data usage, both on home and mobile broadband, is never going to be popular of course and if I was running a network with all the expense involved, I'd probably understand better the requirement to restrict data usage to reduce costs. But that doesn't mean I have to like it, nor that I can't hope for an improvement in allowances.

You've also ignored the fact that T-Mobile are still offering 'unlimited' (3GB?) mobile internet on their deals.

Vodafone or Mobile Phones Direct.... Mobile Phones Direct or Vodafone D:. Just spoke to Vodafone and orders placed for the Desire HD today will be sent out on 14th/15th October. MPD says 26 days for delivery. But then Vodafone is £5 a month more expensive. But I am with them already, and they have more cashback through Quidco.

Decisions! (Please make them for me :()

Are contract terms the same? What about minutes? What network is the MPD deal through?

£5 per month is £120 over 24 months, what do you gain by paying more apart from potentially having the phone a few days earlier?

Go for the cheaper deal and wait a bit longer.

Both are the same minutes and texts ish (I don't use more than 500):

Vodafone: 900 mins, unlimited texts, 750MB data, 24 months, £35/month, £100 cashback, 9 day wait, also with them already
MPD: T-Mobile, 900 mins, 500 texts (fine), unlimited data, 24 months, £30/month, £30 cashback, 26 day wait

Vodafone were very good when I just popped in. Dropped my HD2 contract down to £8.50 a month so the cancellation charge (which is 8 months early) is only ~£65. Then they said I can go back in and add data back on for £5 to cover me for the next 30 days. With the cashback and selling my HD2 for ~£240 I'll actually make a profit either way :p. Silly really.

They still haven't fully sorted out the normal Desire stock problems, I can see these being a bit like gold dust until after Christmas.

Maybe that is why the original Desire stock problem exists, getting these ready to ship? There is no reason for anyone to want an older Desire now surely? HTC (I am guessing) have epic production capacity considering the speed they are churning handsets out for the last 12 months+.

Total cost difference is £50 then. But I'd still go for the better internet package even if you think 500MB will be plenty.

Im in no rush to get one im due an upgrade this month. Should get the phone free and keep my original contract.
I may try to hold off till December if i can bear it just to see what else may come along.
