Man imprisoned for not giving police password.

Don't know about? Of course they do, i've never disputed the fact that they don't know how to do things.

I intervened when people started saying 'the police' haven't cracked it yet.

The point being that the NSA use those encryption algorithms themselves. It would be incredibly stupid of them to use algorithms that they knew, first hand, to be flawed.

50 characters is a pretty impressive password, I have to say.

My encryption password is a 128-bit HEX WEP key that I've put in so many times I've got it memorised (the router is long gone :p). It's pretty easy to remember really, as after a while, your hands can just enter it by themselves. Still that's not even 30.

So you're saying the police did crack it and this is now a CT on the fact they found nothing but wanted him sentenced anyway and so lied about being able to crack it?

Never said anything about anyone cracking it I don't think? So why say it?

But it does... with a high entropy secure password and a good algorithm, brute force takes to long.

And not even too long in the sense of "Oh no, the defendant is dead" but too long in the sense of "Oh no, the temperature everywhere is barely above absolute zero".

So what's going to happen to Delvis first, black helicopters outside or someone called Ivan with a very Russian accent turning up at his door with a suitcase full of money?

Seriously...just brute force the damn thing.

Or better yet, reset it by other means...not exactly hard =/ Especially whenthe police have the resources, its an exscuse tbh

You keep saying they can do it but haven't. So they are either unwilling or presumably have lied about doing it.

Which means our police are either incompetent or corrupt.

If you read my posts, I never said they have done it, asking for a password is the easier way naturally hence my 'excuse' comment, because doing it by other means takes longer, as everyone has pointed out already.

So whats your point? =/

HAHAHa, That key would be broken easy, take some time mind u but is doable... Give it to DMU Uni and watch it crack :D

Join Delvis in the "I don't know what I'm talking about, but I've watched Hackers so I'll pretend I do" group.

Sorry to lower the tone of this intelligent discussion, but - lolDelvis.

Absolutely.

I know for a fact delvis once starred in a homoerotic remake of "Hackers".

He knows all about gaining access via the backdoors.

:D

Then they are actively refusing to do it based on your claims they can do it easily.

They couldn't sentence him if they could get the pw via other means but have refused to.

i can't believe someone would go to jail for 16 weeks out of principe....... i would string it out to the last minuet, but as soon as i was looking down the barrel of 16 weeks i would cough up........ unless properly like him i had a ton of nasty stuff that would make my stay in prison longer and get chucked on some list for the rest of my life.

Longer? You seem unable to grasp the enormity of the task when it comes to brute forcing something like this.

Do you know what other charges he has and what other evidence has been given? no. (Well you might but hey)

Anyway, my first comment was based on not reading the article entirely, so dissmiss it if you will, upto you.
