Regularly getting an issue where my mouse will freeze and lockup.

Windows 7, P6TD M/b, 850W PSU, multiple (though all Razer) mouses.

When it freezes Win 7 makes the noise like when you plug something into the USB and it installs the driver for it.

Mouse works again (temporarily) when you unplug and plug it back into a USB port.

Help !

Or maybe uninstall usb driver, and let Windows re discover and install it.

I presume u tried different sockets to rule out a damaged usb socket

Yes mate tried that, also tried it in different cases.

I'll try what you've suggested, thanks.

1. Mobo drivers = BIOS ?

2. Remove USB driver in Device Manager ?

Never touched USB drivers before, so afraid of messing up. There are about 10 entries under USB in device manager - Host controllers and multiples of USB Root Hub, USB Composite Device and Generic USB Hub.

Hiya

1. No, go to the manufacturers website, asus for example, find the download or driver section,, and download the driver pack that's relevant to your model, and install.

2. I'm not that familiar with win7, but if you uninstall usb and have a net connection, do a reboot it will probably detect new hardware and pretty much do it for you. Don't quote me though, its possible you may get stuck if ur mouse and kb are usb. Probably worth a Google or waiting for someone else to answer on that one.

But go ahead and install new mobo drivers, its easy and certainly won't hurt.

I don't think this is a driver issue, I have had this before and I am sure it's a replacement mouse that will be needed.

Warrenty replacement possibly?

It's happening with 3 different mouses mate (all Razer though - Naga, Copperhead and Diamondback).

To be fair, I have actually heard that razor meece? can have driver issues.

It would be wise to try a bog standard usb mouse. I'm sure you could pilpher one off someone to test.

Didn't want to say anything as I didn't want to offend. You should get a logiteck mx518.

Anyhoo if its a hardware fault with the mouse, it seems unlikely to happend to 3 different models. or the razor drivers are fubar. Either way I would say this is a software issue, and trying a different random mouse will help to isolate the issue.

In short, try a different usb mouse.

Thanks for the advice folks, much appreciated.

matty - no offence taken at all mate, I appreciate any help or advice. I've ordered an mx518.

So I've downloaded various ROMs from (though I can't see anything specific to USB) :

http://uk.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=1H6537GW0fPVHNhO&content=download

The app they give to install them (AFUDOS Bios update tool) won't work on Win 7 64 bit, though . Anyone offer advice on another app I can use to save me Googling around and potentially downloading something dangerous please ?

Been looking on the forums and found this thread :

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18174899

so I'm going with that advice and have downloaded AFlash.

Been SO long since I created a boot disk. I've formatted a mem stick in FAT32. Spent 45 minutes searching this site and googling (they all link to making a Win 7 boot disk)and not got the basic advice on creating a DOS boot disk with a memory stick ('Create a DOS Startup Disk' is greyed out under Win & format options and format F: /s isn't working from a DOS prompt.

So, sorry for needing hand holding but please can someone give me quick advice on making a DOS boot disk from a mem stick ?
