Anyone been to Hong Kong?

My wife has seen some good deals on flights to Hong Kong in March of next year, was wondering if there's anyone here with first hand experiance of HK. Worth a visit? Much to see and do? Apart from buy knock off goods of course :)
 
Been to Hong Kong when i was younger, tbh i cant say we did much in Hong Kong itself as we went to Red China ( this was quite a few years ago :P) and then Flew out to Perth on the night. Taking a ride up Victoria Peak and shopping in Stanley Market seem to be popular choices for things to do. Other than that id say Eat, Drink and Look around because Hong Kong is amazing to see, especially at night. :D :D
 
Been twice, once for a week and a bit, once for almost a week.

Fortunately have an Auntie and Uncle who moved out there so I could stay with them in their nice apartment.

First time I did all the touristy things, Ocean Park (was on my own and felt a bit weird... single white guy walking around :s lol), The Peak, Stanley Market and of course all the computery districts. :D
Second time was a bit more relaxed, visited the Botanical Gardens, the Zoological Park and the Wetland Reserve.


Well worth a visit, the contrast you'll find is amazing. Between the high rise buildings you'll turn a corner onto a small street harbouring a temple.


Love it, can't wait to visit again.


p.s Oh my, nearly forgot the Harbour Light Show. Epic.
 
Go via Cathay Pacific, great airline.

Don't buy fake Omega watches they don't keep time.;)
 
Try the visiting following places:

Tsim Sha Tsui -Visit the harbour in the evening, light show about 7-8 is amazing.
R66 restaurant, Wan Chai - HK's only rotating restaurant, dinner isn't even pricey here.
Ocean Park & Disneyland HK - Ocean park is the better one of the two, Disneyland do however have a stunning fireworks show which is on every night i think.
The Peak - Again amazing views of HK, if you can manage a night which isn't too cloudy.

HK is amazing for food and shopping, if you're not a huge fan of those two things er i would recommend elsewhere. Sightseeing can be done in about 5 days....
 
Had a 3 day stay there a few years ago, I found it a very exciting place with loads to do

Sticky Fingers bar is worth a look
 
Another tip.

Don't go up the peak on a foggy day unless you want to only see fog and you can loose people in it.
 
Hong Kong is somewhere you stopover on the way to Australia and see the city for a few days rather than flying out specifically to visit HK, IMHO.
 
I agree with fox. HK is great for a nice stop on the way to somewhere else but I wouldn't go there specifically to see HK.....although I have done because a good friend moved there :)

Hit up somoewhere like Thailand instead and go sit on a beach.

I'm the total opposite.

Beach holiday is never my thing, go all that way just to sit on your bum? What a waste of time. You can do that at home and save your self a few hundred quid. Just throw a bucket of sand under your ass and you are set :p

I'd like to go to places with cultures, with people, with things to do, with history, with atmosphere.

Or Cambodia, Vietnam, etc :)

I'd disagree (although that is your opinion). I think it is a great place to go if you have the cash and know where you're going or have someone to show you around.

I've been quite a few times as my family live out there, and 3 weeks feels almost too short!

While you're out in HK, it's worth visiting Macau, which is a short boat ride from HK.
