Anyone been to Hong Kong?

ive wanted to go to HK

HK is good i heard...gangs everywhere..in the city....so dont get stabbed...LOL

yh...macau has the best casinos....

from what ive heard. =)

I live in Belfast, you think I'm worried by little men with knives? :D

No, seriously thanks for the input. Never really stood out as a place I'd like to visit, just something different. Been to nearly all noteworthy parts of Europe. America doesn't appeal, same SA and Aus. Might just go for a long weekend in Waterford lol

Went there for a week 2 years ago in the middle of June.

The first thing that hit me as I walked out of the airport was how unbelieveably humid the place is! Luckily there's aircon just about everywhere.

Went to all the tourist places, enjoyed it more than I thought I would. :)

Another tip.

Don't go up the peak on a foggy day unless you want to only see fog and you can loose people in it.

Haha I can confirm from personal experience that the peak does indeed suck on a foggy day. :p

lol...knives? over their we carry sword like knives (longer than daggers...but shorter than swords)....and if a gang wants to fight...1 call and 100s of people come running over.

or maybe im just imagining too much...LOL xD

watching too much HK movies xD

I can understand the mixed feelings about Hong Kong. I like it, but if it werent for the people I know there I can imagine what it would be like. The people arent unfriendly but because its so crowded, people are just rushing along getting to where they need to go. Like London I guess.

Thailand is completely different where the locals are very friendly and are geared to tourism and farangs:D I miss going to Thailand though, the (proper) massages. Loved it.

Going to Hong Kong mid november, but going to Bali aswell. :) Emirates Business on the new A380. Cant wait!!

I enjoyed Hong Kong but I had enough in a day. It's certainly not somewhere you go for a holiday, more somewhere you pop and see while going somewhere else.

Underground is in english too. SUPER easy to get around. I loved HK, so nice. Make sure you take the Ngong Ping to see the buddha.

Spent 4 days there on the way to Aus. Great city, always something to do. Easy to get around on the underground. We stayed on Hong Kong Island (near North Point MTR) rather than Kowloon, was very interesting walking around seeing all those deep fried chicken heads hanging in the windows (that was what i could recognise, plenty of stuff being eaten i couldnt! I drew the line at Pigs Lung Soup though.)

I like Hong Kong, go there once a year usually. Great place for eating as well, assuming you like Chinese food !

I usually stay there for a couple of days then stay in China as its cheaper :p You can get a train to Shen Zhen quite easily from HK , but need a Visa for that of course :)

I lived there back in the mid 80s 84-85 , lived there for 18 months.

was brilliant back then but it was british colony then.

so i dont know if that makes a difference was a long time ago :P

From the posts above it seems you can break it down to 2 camps.

Those who only have been when flying through to somewhere else and only been the for a couple of days finds it boring and never go again.

Those who lived there for long periods or with relations over there to show them around the place loves it.

Am I wrong to assume that those who don't like it didn't give it enough time?
