Turbos

What car do you have out of interest?

And 1k revs? LOL. I suppose you think your turbo assuming you have one, spools up at 200revs and you get maximum power, right to the redline? Haha.

Currently or past ?

Currently a Porsche 911 Carrera 2 S, but previously, he's probably owned more cars than you've driven. His 400bhp Impreza was made of win, and his higly tuned supra is the stuff of legends on this forum ;)

He's also well known for his dislike of the S2000 :p

Doesn't spool at 200rpm, but I would say that is pretty much maximum power to the redline.

A Porsche? Well that sums him up.

Borrrrrrrrrrrring.

yeah dull as dishwater, i often find myself asleep due to its neutral handling, average engine and middle of the road design

nice comeback though, it was nothing if not original, actually it was just nothing

(mark, 9 cans, a packet of fags, a deliverance meal and now i fancy the casino!)

Supercharger with a wizz bang pop VTEC like 7800rpm rev limit beats all as it has torkz and bhp at the same time!

imo :p

To me that says you'll accelerate well between 2.5k and 5k giving a power band of 2.5k rpm, if your shifting much after 5k your probably going to end up going sower, providing when you shift at 5k the next gear lands you at 2.5k :)

Funnily enough i use to own a Prelude Vtec and now own a GTO TT and a Golf Diesel 2.0tdi.
Comparatively the golf "feels" quicker due to the big surge of power when the turbo finally spools up at 1.5k rpm but no quicker does that power appear its gone again at 3k rpm. Outside of the turbo the engine is pathetic and the engine/turbo loose all inertia while changing gears so your left with a gutless engine till the turbo spools up again.
As for the Prelude, while it was not great between 0-2k rpm it never felt anything like as bad as the Golf does.
Now, the GTO is the best of both worlds with the exception of turbo supercharged. however even with its twin turbos it still has a smaller power band than the Prelude.

If you take 2500RPM as the start of the useable torque, then it's still producing significantly more than that at just under 7000RPM.

With any luck he will have more than a 3 speed gearbox so dropping 2500 RPM on a gearchange shouldn't happen.

You also can't assume that maximum torque at the wheels at any given speed will be in a gear that puts you at maximum engine torque - you may get more by dropping a gear and moving engine RPM up to give you more power.

Yes it is boring. It makes you the same as every other **** Porsche driver, who spends loads of money on a car thats looked the same for 40 years.

When you think what else you can buy for the money, it's bland.

My apologies everyone I never imagined a simple question would spark all this :P

Had VTEC, now have Turbo.

Turbo is better.

Yeah that's why a 1.7L Volvo 480 Turbo will annihilate a 3.8L V8 NSX vtec, c'mon dude that's a pretty general statement to be making

That Type R graph says otherwise, it has a pretty flat torque graph beyond 2k rpm.

The issue with Vtec's is you get such a kick when the cams swap that anything off cam just feels inadequate, when in reality its no less than any other engine with the same capacity.

If your getting a really big kick when the cams swap you need to take it to a tuning company and get them to lower the change over point as sounds like its delaying too long hence the big jump at changeover its supposed to be a pretty smooth transition, on some cars you can barely even feel the difference just hear it.

What else can be bought for the money that can do the job as well as the Porsche, but more importantly, for as long as the Porsche will do it for.

What is it you drive, Smokey?

Yeah its a bit rude to trash talk the guy just because you don't like his car, personally I hate the look of every porsche bar the 917 and 962 (had the scalectrix's as a kid) but I dont dislike them or the people who choose to buy them. Just because they have used the same design for 40 years (why not, people like it, it sells) and tried to keep the overall look of the car doesn't really make it boring/bland or make him a **** Porsche driver. Now the new Fiat 500, that's bland/boring/40 years old ^^
