Great, this just about sums up the UK at the moment....
We are a ghetto now:-

The shocking report by the right-wing think-tank Centre for Policy Studies revealed that 11.5 per cent of UK adults - almost one in eight - live in workless households.

This is the highest rate in the six largest economies in the European Union, and almost twice the level in the Netherlands.

And to top it off.....

After being named the benefits capital of Britain - with a staggering 84 per cent of residents living off State handouts - people might expect to see a tatty, rundown suburb, where crime and disorder are rife.

Residents of Rochdale's Falinge Estate have a lower life expectancy than El Salvador

WTF is happening to this once great country?

Its being ruined, and its quite upsetting.

Whats the solution?

I've been to Rochdale a couple of times. If I had to live there I'd be thankful for a low life expectancy. (Apologies to all Rochdalians). That breakfast sounds interesting though.

Old new, this country went a long time ago.

Shame really :( Being British is now a awful thing and no longer a proud thing...

Luckily I'm Scottish lol.

I quite agree, it's simply awful the scourge that seems to be sweeping the country. Solution is quite simply to ban the Daily Mail, and people might start to worry about things that are actually serious problems.

Not much more than what is happening all over europe, I think unemployment in Spain is 17% but what they do different is that they have much fewer benefits, then again they earn a lot less as well.

The growing social void in this country is not a serious problem? If you don't want to read the Daily Mail, read the think tank's paper - the research is credible

The Daily Mail's spin is one of my problems, and I don't disagree unemployment is a problem. It's the whole 'what is this country coming to' angle which bothers me. Unemployment's fallen in the last twelve years, it's right there in the article. What's more, we've just been through a recession. Things will get better, and moaning about workshy benefit cheats distracts from bigger social problems. What about tax evasion? Funny how the Mail never gets worked up about that.

84% unemployment rate in some of the worst council housing out there?

Shock horror.

Next they'll be saying in an asylum seeker centre, 100% of the residents are living on asylum seeker benefits.

I have said several times in past posts in other threads. The government should do all it can to prevent the concentration of poverty like this. It is I believe the greatest barrier to social mobility. The knock on effects on local education establishments as well as for the aspirations of children growing up in these types of places are disastrous.
