Loved the 80's series when I was younger. Just noticed that Channel 1 (Sky121, Virgin119, Freeview20) are showing the 2009 series tonight at 10pm.

Is it worth a watch? I'm struggling to find anything that really interests me tonight apart from this?

Whatever happened to the lovely lizard alien in the orignal series? She was one of my early crushes! :o

//edit

It would appear that she (Jane Badler) is in Neighbours at the moment.

It starts off a bit ropey but picks up in the final few episodes. I'd say it's worth a go yes because season two is shaping up to be amazing by all accounts.

I watched the first 3-4 episodes and got really bored with it myself.

Tho there are some quite cool bits later on but nothing that really made up for the boring bits.

Sorry to quote you mate, but i couldn't agree more.

Not saying thats exactly how i take it, i find value in most things, even the first episodes of the series. It's not that i don't see it's shortcomings though, a couple of characters they rightfully binned, and the the pace and explanations of who and what for wern't saying enough.

Lots of those issues were answered in the last couple of episodes, plus it left an amazing set of hooks that are dieing to be explained.

And yep... every single bit of noise coming out from the cast through to the runners is 100% positive about the 2nd series, can't wait to see if it holds up.

It wasnt too bad, bit slow and I didnt really like the way that the whole "resistance" in this seemed to be 3 people compared to the original which had a much larger scale to it, focusing around a dozen major characters instead of just 3.

To be honest I also havent really enjoyed the character changes either, I think the originals Donovan was better than any of the remakes characters, the originals mercenary played by the uber fantastic Michael Ironside was better than the mercenary in the remake, all in all I felt that the originals characters were far superior, more diverse and more believable. It just kind of felt like the remake had been dumbed down to just a few characters because modern viewers attention spans are so much weaker and our brains can only hold the information for a couple of characters and the larger cast would have only confused us.

I loved the original and loved the new series too - roll on season two!

As Tombstone alludes to, the original did have a little more depth.

Well I started to watch it from the beginning but got a bit bored with it..
the Priest ended up been the main reason i watched it for :p lol

It will never be as good as the 80's version they were amazing!!

but you might really enjoy it

If aliens appeared in spaceships and said "We are of peace. Always," would you believe them or having watched numerous sf TV shows be automatically wary? :D

Original good, new, bad, the original was camp with bad acting, but that was the style, the new one mostly blows.

Serenity bird(sorry, incredibly bad with names) is ok, half of everyone else is terrible though. The kids, hell they aren't young enough to have the excuse of younger kids are just bad actors, the younger bird from Smallville is at least incredibly hot and actually not that bad, the two guys are pathetically bad.

Its just so, standard, nothings jumped out to make me think its amazing, the stories have been shallow and mostly boring, most of the characters aren't very likable bar the priest, who for me might be the only decent character amongst the lot of them.

Bringing back actors from original series comes across as nothing more than a stunt rather than casting the best actress they can find for the part. Its not terrible and it certainly improved a heck of a lot because the first 4-5 episodes were pretty dire. It needs to improve dramatically in series 2 to be worthwhile though.

Theres nothing worse than making a big budget show happen and getting in a mostly crappy cast, while theres shows like Blue Blood with what you might call an almost A-list cast in an utterly done before generic cop show. Put the average to poor cast in the average to poor show and get an a-list cast in for something like a V remake.

Well we don't necessarialy know how large the resistance is yet as we've just focused on the creation and story of this particular cell there are blatently other cells out there that they have no contact with whatsoever thats what Guerrilla warfare is all about if one cell is compromised the other cells can go on doing their thing without fear of being exposed through the interrogation of the other cells basically don't keep all your eggs in one basket.

Yes I understand that, but that does sound awfully like an excuse, the original was about guerilla warfare but was able to have a dozen or so main characters. I don't think that the new one only having 3 is down to a story realism feature. We will see if more come into it, personally I suspect not.

The series has only had one short season so far maybe they'll start recruiting for the cell in the second season give it time.
