**HTC HD2 Thread**

Well 1.7ppp worked fine for the first day then after booting into winmo and back into android it has started playing up. Also the annoying touchscreen freezes seem to be back :(

Will give the rmnet version a try tomorrow to see if it is any better. As a last resort I might also just disable the gsensor as this supposedly completely fixes the touchscreen freezes.
 
Installed yesterday with Chucky ROM + 2.11.50 Radio (iirc) and the latest mattc build, works great! smoother than I expected and a fair bit nicer to use than winmo. Haven't had chance to play about with it much yet though other than importing and syncing contacts and linking them all together.

Battery consumption is quite high though, as other's have said. Average use from full charge this morning and I'm on about 40% now. I get the odd error message occasionally as well, but nothing critical I don't think.

Still having an issue with texts not getting through like barkl0r did - its better with Android but its still not working right - may try a different radio to see if that helps.
 
Just installed the new 1.5 shub build, very impressed with it so far, battery usage is much much improved, tried the ppp version but had data connection problems, so installed the rmnet and all seems fine.

Do you have a link for that build mate? Is it vanilla or Sense?

Has anyone got angry birds running, ive tried downloading it from the market place but it fails, ive also tried it on two different android builds and both fail. I really want to play this :( .

Edit:
You have to unmount SD card first in Settings, download and install the game from market place then remount the SD card :)

Used one of these for a morning setting it up for active sync at work.

I wasn't impressed at all, the screen was... large that's about as much as I can say for it. The interface was quite laggy out of the box and web browsing was nothing short of a waste of time.

Changing anything off the main menu (and back to the old old old windows mobile layout) was very painful. Took me a good few attempts to change a setting at one point.

I used windows mobile for years but going back I was left infuriated!
 
after about 8 months of good problem free use i've had to take mine into the shop for repair, not charging, tryed different battery and charger, but no luck.
when plugged in the LED just flashes green/orange and does not charge.
they were unable to identify why, just speculated that it my be a problem with the pins for the micro USB damaged, so off it goes and i'm stuck with a dinosaur of a phone for the next couple of weeks:(

Unlucky man, I would be lost without mine!

ethos - you are spot on, the HD2 out of the box is not great and can be very frustrating, especially when trying to change settings in the menus with an interface that was designed with a stylus in mind...it really comes into it's own with the custom roms based on the more 'finger friendly' updated winmo. Not sure why you say web browsing is a waste of time though, all my iphone using friends have always remarked how fast and pleasant it is using my phone :confused:

The HD2 really comes into its own when you get a good custom ROM on it, and have a tweak around. It's a real shame that it needs it, because it's excellent hardware. I have warned friends away from the phone though, as much as I love it. I don't want them thinking that HTC make bad phones :p

That guide is a little out of date now as things are moving quite fast but it has everything you need to get started.

As for which build to use, there are so many to choose from - to start with I would probably go for an RMNET (as opposed to PPP) build. I am currently using Mdeejay's Evo Sense Revolution 1.6 build and I really like it (though it still has the same data issues as all the other PPP builds I have tried)

Displayed on the HTC boot screen on the bottom left next to the 'R'.
In WinMo: Settings > About Phone > Software Information > Radio Version.
In Android: I'm just looking it up... I can't actually find it.

Yea there are tons, take your pic :) I personally like the Evo based builds, just remember that the ppp builds are still unstable when it comes to data (will sometimes randomly disconnect and not reconnect without you manually forcing it) so best to stick with the more reliable rmnet builds if that bothers you.
