6870/6850 benchmarks (for real)

6970 will be min £400 on release, mark my words

OK, you sound very confident about that. I think £400 is a tad high tbh.
If the performance demands that price tag then you can't complain really....
If it has enough performance over a 480 to deserve an additional £60 then thats fine, if not then it's priced incorrectly.

We have seen a slide comparing 6970 to 6870 and essentially it is 50% bigger (shaders, tmu, rops) in all areas bar clock speed and ram, so I guess 50% faster under ideal conditions.

Of course that slide might be fake.

This is how I see it. I don't see what there is to moan about as their naming sceme has changed

The problem is going to be for ill-informed customers, who assume that a 6870 will be faster than a 5870 due to it being a higher number.

3870 was ~= 4770
4870 was ~= 5830

surely then one would expect

5870 ~= 6770/6830, not 5870 > 6870.

not replying to your post exactly but just wanted to say AWESOME signature! +10 internet points for you, sir :)

Then again, these benchmarks may have been completed on inadequate drivers and pre-release hardware, so we may still see some improvements when the cards are officially released.

And presumably the 6990, which is supposed to be more or less two 6970s stuck together, will be well above £600?

probably, but if there is allot of demand Vs supply we might not see this card for a while as AMD will get better margins by selling two cards instead of a dual GPU card.

Looks like the AMD crowd won't be able to take the mick out of nVidias renaming any more :D

Yea because ati are still selling 3 year old cards as gts240/250. Amd are changing there naming scheme with an all new line up not swapping labels over and passing them off as a new card. The 5770 if it does become the 6770 is maybe all the nv guys can go on about. If this does happen and the prices are right i am sure no one will care to much. I personally think amd will have a new 6770 card to replace the 5770 anyhow as they could probably produce a card a little faster thats cheaper to make.

I really hope they decide to make these the 6750/6770, making them the 68 series is dumb and pointless.

Keep it all clear, stop trying idiotic marketing tricks.
