Stuff you know that others wouldn't know because of your job.

That company directors don't like it when the latest submitted limited company accounts are anonymously emailed to the 'all recipients' account at work, especially when it shows a significant rise in profits despite them pleading poverty for the past year as an excuse to 'streamline' departments and using the recession as an excuse not to increase wages (even in line with inflation) for the last three years.

The witch-hunt stalled when it was revealed anyone could do it for £18 online.

Shipping is the single biggest cause of pollution in the world.

Kidnapping/piracy is more common than you'd think a few areas in the world (not just off Somalia), and the companies pay ransom demands pretty much all the time.

Could go into shipping rates and demolitions prices... Bangladesh have a big enviromental dispute at the moment but there's nothing much more I can think of... at least nothing I could tell people really. :(

tbh, I know lots of really boring information on aviation that I'm sure people on here would have no interest in whatsoever.

Same, mainly about just how much certification it takes to put so much as a 1foot squared area of test carpet down in a commercial airliner.

Not really that interesting is it?

Disabled children are entitled to free nappies when they reach the age of 5 if they still require them.

The more common blood tests are done within minutes/hours and your doctor has the results by the end of the day, not days or weeks like GP's/nurses/phlebotomists tell you.

ESR blood test is crap test unless eye related, CRP test does the job better.

Software is shipped with hundreds of known bugs, the last major release I shipped had 40 priority 2 bugs, over 200 priority 3 and a hell of a lot more under P3.

And this isn't because I work for a bad software company, it's a very common practice amongst the worlds largest software companies. Some of the things I've been told while working under NDA with other companies makes the mind boggle.

Posters on this forum continually amaze me by admiting to having an SC/CTC/DV clearance. Seems silly when one of the rules is not to tell anybody!

As khaaaan already aluded; so what? I haven't admitted any such thing anyway, furthermore my identity is undisclosed, not like that matters. What else amazes you?

Anyhow, who dragged this thread back up!?

I know that 90% of lock company reps have no clue on how to assemble a lock. They might know what fancy materials it's made of and all it's functions but have no idea how to put it together.

And yep, i've had to teach a few how to put together their own locks :D

Same here. SC.

I know a fella in Special Branch who had to undergo DV clearance for his work and while he didn't go into detail, he did say the process was hard work with real probing questions into his private as well as work life.

The panel knew the answers already but wanted to know if the applicant was being truthful in his answers.

DV really isnt that bad, a lot of the rumours about it really are just from people that have it already making up tall tales :)

But yes, they do go through an awful lot of your life, and i reckon for the most part its not "can we trust you" but "are you an easy blackmail target". Its also a very expensive process for the government though so not done lightly, though they do get to ask some funny questions along the way.

I know that as well :/
