Mondeo ST vs Focus ST - Why such a price difference?

The Focus sounds even better with an aftermarket exhaust ;)

The only downside to my Focus I have at the minute is, I have some clutch slip in high gear, but all is not lost, should be ok after fitment of an RS clutch and flywheel :)

Mines pushing close to 300 at a guess, will know a figure at the end of the month.

I like how the Mondeo sounds as standard. Sure it's not loud (although I did nail it through a narrow tunnel once with all the windows down and it sounded glorious) but it sounds meaty and barks nicely at higher revs. I'm always curious as to how loud it is from outside the car though..

Lolmike

The difference really is down to image. Which is lucky for people like me who wouldn't want to be seen in a focus st :D

Just don't get a post march 2006 220 which is pretty rare anyway and you'll be ok, doesnt matter about emissions then as you won't be paying any more tax.

what age do you need for the facelift version, but the lower tax rate?

im toying with the idea of a new car and Mondeo ST220 vs the Focus ST225 are my choices too.

Er facelifts came in on the 53 plate, not sure on exact first build, but its 2004 through to March xx 2006.

unless he meas the facelift with the chrome and the stripy lights which was around 2006

But just buy an older one and retrofit the shiny bits like solid did !

I have not, I only have the facelift lights, the rest of the chrome looks rubbish.

and for the record the lights were on the car when I got it!!

So a 04 has everything from the facelift (6 speed gearbox, cruise control etc) except the chrome? And thats the lower tax model?

Found one that looks very good for 7k, which is almost a straight swap for my Fiesta (+ income from mods)

Just buy an 04 54 05 55 and you should be fine (keep an eye out on when the 55 was first registered though!).

7k seems expensive unless its loaded with every extra (satnav/parking sensors etc).

Was going to explain why I considered the Mondeo to be better than the Focus in almost everyway but I think its already been covered!

As you can tell I own an ST220, I came from an S2000 and I havent regreted the change (circumstances required more practicality!). I dont think theres really a better car to be had for 5k or so.

I don't get it, you guys are saying that they both have around the same performance but the Mondeo is much better kitted out and more spacious however the Focus is worth more as its more tunable and has a sportier image? Now I don't doubt that the are people out there who will sacrifice comfort and features for a sportier image and the ability to tune the car but are the really enough of them to swing the market value like that?
