I started a new career on that yesterday, I only had a choice of rubbish teams to sign for, the best being Birmingham, so I went with some Dutch team, Roda JC. Scored 2 goals in my first game with them and had a few surprises along the way. The first half the manager didn't give me any orders, the second half he started telling me to get further up the pitch and wait for long balls, which worked perfectly! Shortly after my second, I was substituted which was a huge surprise as this never happened in the manager mode on Fifa.

Take a look at both threads and figure out which has the better tone about the game...

Very few complaints in here.

Personally, I think that neither have that thing about them that Fifa 09 had, but I do think that this year PES has progressed and Fifa has regressed. It's as if it's slowly starting to go back to the mid 2000's where every year the game had some very slight alterations to make it appear as if more had changed than it actually had, add on a few marquee new gimmicks and voila! Next year in PES I want to see the dribbling sorted out fully, it's 'okay' as it is at the moment, it does the job, but that's about it. If they can smooth that up a little bit, add some better dribbling and turning animations then it'll be PES next year for me too.

I must admit my opinion of PES was beginning to change slightly, you lot seem very impressed by it. Its certainly very healthy to have PES getting better and better to keep the Fifa boys on their toes. BUT.

I have just seen the video review of PES on gametrailers and it looks shocking. Are you guys playing the same game ? Im not so sure about buying it after seeing the useless keepers and very very bad AI, not to mention the rather wooden animations. Am I being fair or is it better than the video suggests ?

Im only going by what I saw, unless gametrailers specifically had a video full of dodgy bit. Let me know.

Yep, sprint doesn't seem to do much unless you're Ronaldo.

Nah, not that, one to make other players make runs off the ball. Editing tactics works to some extent, but not enough.

It's because the standard and expectations of PES are so low now, that a remotely average game was beyond your wildest dreams.

Is Fifa 11 above average? Critics say yes, but then take a look at the Fifa thread here and the one over on EA Sports forums, they are absolutely packed full of people experiencing the bugs I've mentioned, even when the game *does* work it plays like crap.

The ref and linesman alone ruin fifa 11 for me. Im really tempted to swap to pes now. Is the offside rule etc actually implemented properly in PES? What are penaltys like?

Penalties are fine, it's generally tap shoot and hold a direction, if you do hold the direction for too long then the ball will go off target but it's nowhere near as gimmicky as Fifa's stupid Tiger Woods Swingometer penalty taking random lottery system of doom.

I just scored a peachy goal with Borowski. Must have been about 30 yards out and just rifled it into the top corner. I wish there was a way to share your replays!

i might have to buy pes as well and see which i prefer. I just want a football game without the ref ruining it or stupid team mates standing there staring into space

The critics also reviewed FIFA 11 before the FIFA 10 panic button patch, which is half of what messed the gameplay up. I do not get bored/frustrated when playing PES, I do after one or two games on FIFA.

For sprinting, try tapping R1 instead of holding it and you'll go quite a bit faster.

See this video for an explanation on penalties, to dive, just press square + direction.

1: Control - Do you use the analogue stick or D-Pad for movement?
2: Camera - Which camera do you use?
3: Shooting - What's your technique when 1v1 with the keeper?

Offsides are correct, but can be just as harsh at times in terms of close calls. It's like the linesmen have bionic eyes.

Had a real scare this morning, loaded the game up on my xbox, selected my hdd as data source, and kept gettin an error telling me something along the lines of 'Can't load data' (eeeeek). Had a look and my PES11 game data had corrupted :-\ Luckily it didnt affect my saved games at all! I feared my nicely developing ML online team was no more!
