Good O', I still think it's a bad idea and would be reluctant to do it.

I've only ever (Knowingly) sold 1 car to a forum member, in fact a moderator of this forum

But that was a brand new car, I wouldn't want to sell a used car to a forum member.

How long did your credit licence take to get sorted Maz?

One of my best mate's dad does this to keep him occupied in his retirement.

He specialises in BMW minis now but started out buying and selling anything.

Seems like hard work but no doubt enjoyable, especially if you're into motors.

Just got one pair, but unless you have substancial premises to trade from or a massive level of stock they won't grant them straight away.

So how long did they take, he has got to go to a DVLA office to sort that out i think he said.

Nice that you found a common interest! Never really managed that with my old man but then again I am of a typical only child mentality and tend to keep my interests to myself most of the time.

Is the plan that this will be his main income whilst remaining a bit of a side interest for yourself?

Make sure you estimate your sales figures into 15+ otherwise they'll tell you to get lost and appeal!

I started doing very few but big profits, but as time goes on those opportunities become harder to find so doing volume now.

But I estimated 4-8 a month to start, and they knocked me back appealled and they asked for all sorts of **** to support my reason for wanting them.

Anyway left it 4 months, re applied and had an interview with manager of local VRO - she recognised my face (Maybe because 7 years ago as a Junior Salesman I was there everyday) Anyway had a lenghthy discussion and she divulged to me what the minimum requirements are and let me have them with a review at renewal time.

So from first application it took 6 months, but if I could turn time back I would have estimated my sales a lot higher than 4-8 ;)

At the min I do 15+ p/month, you need to estimate 15+ ;)

Thanks a lot for that Maz.

Warranty i will offer them the usual rubbish AA one probably or warranty wise, i will look into that.

Not much else i can do, we will full fill our obligation if something is wrong, after that its good luck and good bye.

I want this to be his main income i will pay him till it is up and running then its up to him.

All i want is for this to be the one to interest him, you see making money is addictive, money also comes to money, once you get a few quid, you expand, branch out into different things then you crack it.

But you need to het the flavour first, thats what i want to happen to him.

Do you perceive any issues with the buyers preconceptions about buying a car from a 21 yearold?

I don't think he'll have a problem, especially so in a family run business.

I've been selling cars since I was 18, and at 23 cars with a value of over £100k.

If he's competant and confident, get's on with people and has his wits about him oh and helps if he's not a complete idiot then he should get on fine.

Eventually for me at the age of 25 I turned greedy, putting more money into the pockets of my superiors for the job I was doing made me wanna skip them out :)

That makes your frustration a lot clearer!

Oh well, as you say once you get a taste for something you tend to run with it (still haven't found my thing at 28 though!) and make a success of it. Either that or it gives him a bit of drive to do something else having gained some business experience.

He looks older but needs to grow some hair, dont want him putting the people off.

I dont really know is the answer to that, we shall see.

He's got a lot of learning to do on how to deal with people, but im the same, i dont look or come across too well either to be honest.

On the other hand we aint selling Ferrari's so im hoping all will be well.

It was a genuine question btw wasn't having a dig in the slightest, but thinking about it and like Maz has said, because it’s a family run business in family grounds it somewhat changes the playing field (so to speak).
