think this is the right section so...

not a bunny boiler but a central heating boiler.

looking at a glowworm flexicom 24kw or maybe a 30kw.
not seen many good reviews for it though which is a bit annoying. they either seem to work all the time or be crap and breakdown. so hit or miss.

worcester seem better but seem pricey.
valliant(sp) seem the best but aftersales seems **** and they break down a lot.

You trying to pick a boiler?

I'm no plumber, but I've had friends who are plumbers recommend Worcester, not heard many good things about Glow worm.

Have you thought of using a heat pump? I'm a technical HVAC engineer and started up our heat pump business from scratch - can give you some advice if you'd like :)

you'll have to humour me here...

what is a heat pump? does it give out hot water or is just used for central heating?

i was told by a few people glow worm are good but looking at reviews on the net they are very average. worchester seem to have the best praise. but they also have the highest price tag. :(

Heat pumps are now being introduced into the UK market and have been used in commercial and residential installs in Europe for the past 10 years. It is a device which can provide heating and cooling from a single unit, and also hot water at the same time.

The units work at co-efficients of performance of up to 4.5 so you get 450% heating output for every 100% electrical input. The capital cost is slightly more than a conventional condensing boiler but the pay back periods are really, really attractive, especially when you consider on really hot days you can press a switch and run chilled water through your radiators for some radiative cooling.

The devices used to be plagued with low water delivery temperatures but modern units can supply hot enough to not have to change radiators etc.

Also you may be able to get a grant/part grant for the unit & installation, plus they are about to start the MCS scheme (micro a(C)creditation scheme) meaning you will get money back from your electrical supplier for using one.

Sadly my company only supplies to commercial customers but ICS Heat Pumps (www.icsheatpumps.com) provide free quotes and surveys and I can wholly recommend them.

heat pumps sound like a fantastic idea. a quick look on the net means they are well out of the price range i was looking at. i was baulking at £2k. heat pump systems start at £4k and seem togo to around £10k!!! :o

so er thanks for the insight but i'll stick witha combi boiler cheers. :)

I know a lad that is a glow worm engineer and advises against both them and valient. He always says worchester is the way to go.

90% of the time, you get what you pay for though ;)

Worcester are indeed very good, thats the only gas boiler we fit. Vaillant are also very good but ive not had many dealings with them.

The old G|low Worms are great, very simple and well built, the new ones are not so good though.

If you need a new boiler im in Rugby, good price for you sir!!

:D

Here you can check Gas safe registered Gas fitters, good resource. I would go with a Worcester, as you say, they're well recommended all round. plus my parents currently have a glow worm and it's stopped working a few times where as everyone elses Worcester has run basically fault free.

Buy cheap, buy twice. Cheaper boilers tend to have more expensive parts to make up for it later when they inevitably break.

Worcester's are worth the premium. Vaillant are almost equally as good, they share some parts with Glowworm but generally have better quality ones where it counts. If you need a quiet boiler then Vaillant are the way to go. Apart from that you may as well get a Worcester because they are indeed very good.

Worcesters arent perfect (all brands have their flaws) but they are the standard issue boiler i spec out to new build homes and apartments, 90% of clients are happy enough but a few will chose other brands. Their customer service by the way is excellent.

I should also add i have one heating my home and water.

Chuck me a PM mate with a rough paragraph of your current system and I may be able to dig out a special price for you.. :-)

Our range is designed upon industrial/commercial units up to 200kW in a single unit, but we also have the residential units too which come in all shapes and sizes.

That is if you do wanna see what kind of prices you can get them for :D HTH!
