Attempts to build a multicultural society in Germany have "utterly failed", Chancellor Angela Merkel says.

In a speech in Potsdam, she said the so-called "multikulti" concept - where people would "live side-by-side" happily - did not work.

A recent survey showed that more than 30% of Germans believed Germany was "overrun by foreigners".

The study - by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation think-tank - also showed that roughly the same number thought that some 16 million of Germany's immigrants or people with foreign origins had come to the country for the social benefits.

Hopefully the tide is about to turn and we can return to common sense and stop trying to live in some kind of multicultural, multi-faith utopia.

It don't work, it will never work and I for one was never asked if I wanted to live in that kind of country nor was 99.999999% of the UK population.

Connected how? Is this just people's perceptions or are there actual statistics to back that up? Because if it's just perceptions, then boo bloody hoo get over it.
 
How has it worked then, we have clearly segregated communities, a growing resentment of the UK being seen as a soft touch.

The problem is the second you say anything against multiculturalism you are branded a racist.

I think it is safe to say in London that there is a problem black youths and knife crime, but of course that makes me racist.

The police can't stop and search black youths for the fear of being branded a racist.
 
It doesn't work because people are racist, and scared of change. A friend married a German woman, learnt German fluently, has a high earning job so isn't leeching off society, and he still gets stick. What more do they want?
 
You are now seeing this repeated all over Europe the grand experiment has failed the immigrants have failed to adapt to our way of life instead choosing to segregate themselves and attempt to impose their beliefs and customs on to the same countries that allowed them the freedom to enter.

Statements like that are half the problem, it is not a joke! We are being forced to accept this massive upheaval in out whole way of life without once being consulted.

Joke all you want but in the end it is going to be all our problem when civil unrest spills out onto the streets.

I see your location is correct :)
 
A multicultural society is possible but it requires a lot of work on both side. The country being able to accommodate their needs and the foreigners willing to learn the language and put some graft in.
 
Where has it been shown to work? In an ideal world where we all have work and people want for nothing then yes I can for see a time when it may work but whilst you have want, resentment and religion it will never work.

Maybe by the 23/24 century once mankind finally shrugs of the shackles of religious belief.
