Intel Core i7 980x CPU B1 ES

This is obviously an engineers sample and was wondering if it is exactly like the OEM version? I found it for £500. Do you think its a good deal and this cpu will last?

B1 is the same stepping as the retails. ES cpu's arnt ment to be sold though and £500 is a bit steep too.

If its an engineering sample then no doubt its been abused already.

As jabski said tho, they remain the property of intel and arent meant to be sold

it wont show as a 980x in cpu-z but it is.....they may not be supposed to sell the ES version but like everything else it has its price and personally i think £500 isnt to bad...i just got one on ebay full retail for $820 and free delivery....the guy had no feedback but had ebay buyer protection so worse case i get my money back.... i say go for it!

Unless he sends you an empty box with full tracking so he can prove he sent it to you....

mmmmm....that would be a knightmare
ive asked him to send me a pic with the unopened box and his ebay name and date on it
i paid it on my credit card so i should be covered (i hope)

Just video tape the unopened box, and then you opening it - if it's empty you've got proof! Make sure you use some good suspense music in the background ;)

I remember 2 years back buying a lovely Core i7- 970 for 500 quid, thinking I got a deal of a century few hours later after buyin it got a message from one chap saying id been conned and not to pay him any money....

I was so upset cos I had paid within an hour and he messaged me 2-3hrs afterwards.... was like the bloke waited a few hours just too miff me off or something? lol

Got 2-3 other messages from other ebayers the previous day saying ive been conned.....

Nice too see people not bothering to report it or flag it with ebay/paypal but there you go humans are vile and animals are better, as my m8 says :)

Anyhow that made my Xmas loosing 500 smackers, I had to wait a good week or so before Paypal even updated the case, the bloke sent out a Core i7-920 cpu instead with the top of the cpu worn off/polished off so pushed the dispute even further with a report from pcw stating it was a 920cpu instead.... that allowed paypal to push it quicker/easier and they took the money straight from the guys account back to my own :)

Moral or story, dont be a daft duck lol

Don't buy an ES CPU

It's illegal
It could go pop and you wouldnt be able to RMA it
It could be dodgy and not function properly/be stable
If faulty it could damage something

Why risk it? Especially for that kinda money

While its not exactly illegal in the sense you'd end up going to jail for it, Intel can at any time and have on occasion used court orders to recover ES CPUs.

Never buy one tho to try and get a bargin... way too much money for something that is a production sample at best, most likely been pushed hard and may fail at any time leaving you with no recourse.

paypal sent me a tracking number today so heres hoping hes one the level....i will keep you posted and make sure i video the box opening just incase
please god let it be what he says it is.....im desperate to overclock that bad boy to 4.5ghz+......cavemanoc i think i will play the pink panther music!

dont bother with buying ES chips

the 'good deal' you look like you may be getting is nice at the time, but the lower resale value means you would lose less money buying a retail.

Over the last 10 or more years, i've been "lent" more ES's from AMD and Intel than i care to remember. At NO time did any of them clock better than the retail versions, and in many instances they clocked well below the retail versions. Also in many cases, because they were ES's, some functionality was missing (instuction set, speedstep ect}.
That's the nature of ES's. To buy one for an everyday rig (apart from the fact that you shouldn't have been sold it in the first place), is in my opinion foolhardy at best.
Would i work with ES's, yes of course i would.................would i part with my own money for one, not in a month of Sundays.

ohhhhhhh.......bad news i got bumped for my 980x
ebay contacted my saying it was fraudulant so i contacted paypal and have a claim in. they say im fully covered by buyer protection so i need to wait a week or two to get my hard earned back but least its coming thank christ...... put an offer in for one on ebay again brand new retail for £625..uk seller with great feedback so fingers crossed.
and the morral of the story is dont buy expensive comp components from monkeys with no feedback!

Ebay have pulled it because they arent meant to be sold.

And if its already been posted you may not actually get ur refund
