Crazy religious woman?

completely agree with her tbh and i wouldn't really consider myself Christian.
As has already been pointed doubt why is the year 2010 it is called 2010 because it is supposedly 2010 years since Christ was born.

Really really hate all these needless and pointless changes or is it just an excuse to charge more for new edition books....

I work for a University and I received the following email from a student.

What're your opinions on this? Personally, I think the womans lost it. I still haven't replied to her as I haven't a clue what to say other than 'ooooook?' but I'd be interested to see what you all think.

I think people that agree with that email should be rounded up into death camps.

Tell her to seek professional help, or to just kill herself so she will then meet jesus.

Tell her she can use whichever she wishes too, however you will use BC and BCE due to your personal beliefs. She can't object to that can she, oh wait... one rule for some and all that

I dont understand why it needs to be changed in the first place. Im not christian in the slightest but would continue using AD and BC because its what im used to and i cant stand PC *******s like this.

Most uni's state that they are secular organisations, and reserve the right to allow or disallow any religious observance. Frankly, you should just tell her that, as per a democratic system, the majority view rules - in this case a date system not tied to one religion.

You could also politely put to her that the UK is by and large Atheist.

Got any figures to back this up? I suspect it's fair to say that the UK is by and large a non-practising but religious place, I mean that many people will call themselves Christians but do not practice it (and let's not have another debate on whether or not that nullifies your right to be a Christian).

That woman sounds bananas to me.

I think you should read some more up to date books than 500 years ago.

Doesn't matter hold old the book is, the Church claimed at the time that due to certain passages in the Bible the Sun went round the Earth...

Or are you suggesting that the church should be allowed to pick and chose what bits of the Bible it follows?

Stupid to change the abbreviations, why change it from something everyone knows to something that something few people know and takes up 1 extra byte of space making it less efficient? Seems like some sort of anti religious crusade where people attempt to wipe out every last remanent of religion like Orwells 1984.

Simply reply that the terms CE and BCE are accepted terms in academic usage and, as such, the course will be adopting them.

Really, there's no need to involve yourself in such silly arguments.

hmm, i think she has confused catholic and christians...

Most of the church's in the UK are chatholic ones...

Im a roman catholic, yet i dont actually think god is real.. Im all science and big bang stuff...

I think she has a good point. Two good points, really.

i) Renaming an explicitly Christian thing while continuing to use it is at least rather rude and at worst a deliberate attack on Christianity.

ii) Punishing her for not going along with an attack on her own religion would be unfair.

Having said that, much of Christianity is based on doing exactly what she's complaining about but on a far larger scale. Christmas, Easter, etc, etc. So she's not in the best position to be arguing the first point. She's on solid ground with the second point, though.

but she doesnt say religious people she says population as if everyone is christian apart from 4%

I would point out that only about 4% of the UK population is of other faiths, and this edict about the use of Christian terms by the University is hugely out of proportion.

She probably does mean everyone but 4%, but what she said was (disregarding the %) is correct.
