Steam vs Retail

I do like Steam for the convenience, but I'll always go with the cheapest option. Or if it's something I can wait to play, then I'll wait for a Steam sale.

gotta be steam, nothing worse than losing your disk or accidently scratching the disk, making it impossible to install, or losing your cd case with CD key, which means you can't play multiplayer without it.

Haha, excellent!

I like Steamworks games that are cheaper to buy at retail than from Steam.

e.g. Fallout: New Vegas

It's a Steamworks game that requires steam.

Price from Steam: £29.99
Price from online retailer: £22.99

Having a retail copy of a Steam game is great, as you get a free DVD backup of the game. :)

Well yes but you normally only get hacked if you do something stupid.

You can just as easily say if you get burgled you face the possibility of losing all your games AND your pc/consoles and that is completely out of your hands.

Most successful hacks are the real life equivalent of leaving your front door wide open with a sign up saying you've gone on holiday for 2 weeks so don't leave any milk.

You are exaggerating. The guy does have a point it is perfectly feasable to get hacked even if you are the most conscientous person with your computers security. Hence why we have security programs ie: antivirus - spyware consistently updating themselves as something new has been discovered. We will always be one step behind fraud.

was thinking this earlier. original assassin's creed £5 from amazon. £20 from steam. is the extra £15 justifiable for auto patching/fast downloading?

Nope it is overpriced convenience. Which idiotic consumers who pay the prices will continue to keep these unjustifiable prices stay as they are:(

We will always be one step behind fraud.

that's because it depends solely on the intelligence of the person targeted.

in every steam chat window steam says 2don't ever give anyone your pw, but people still do, every time you click a link in steam chat that isn't top a steam page it pops up saying "this isn't a steam site do not enter your account details" yet people still do.

All the security in the world can't stop idiots willingly giving their details to others.

This.

Though you have a point. Its not like leaving the door open with a sign saying you're away for 2 weeks. Its more like inviting the burglar in who is cleverly disguised as the guy from Antiques Roadshow by using a mask and asking to take away all your stuff for appraisal...

I use Steam because no disks are required, which makes it a quick process to load up games. I've never had my account hacked so I don't see any problems with it.

lol nice example ^^

Idiotic consumers? Or perhaps simply people who can afford it and decide they want to - god forbid people have free choice. Are these the same idiots who mainly purchase the Steam Specials?

I guess it's a question of the convenience of having no discs and being able to download games on any PC against the convenience of being able to customize installation, simplify modding and quicker installation.
So it's convenience vs convenience. Personally I got for convenience every time but thats just what I'm like.
