Porsche 911: All the same, crap to drive, just crap!

Some of Sportautos tests to compare:
Porsche 997.2 GT3 RS: 7:33
Nissan GT-R (New one) 7:34
Ferrari 458 Italia: 7:38
Lexus LFA: 7:38
Mercedes SLS: 7:40
Lamborghini Murciélago LP 670-4 SV: 7:42

Porsche claims 7.18 for the GT2 RS with a tester not a racer.

I suppose everyone is different but the buzz of driving this Bentley lasted a couple of weeks, still a bit of a sense of occasion but the wow factor soon fades.
I think you should get an Arnage T. The Continental GT is a nice car, but I think that sense of occasion fades quickly because it's almost too much of a bargain and, at least relative to the Arnage, there are a number around.

You should purchase this, get bored of it, and sell it to me for a fraction of the price you paid for it. Yes, that is exactly the best course of action!

See they are lovely cars (after 2002 anyway) but for the money they cost i would always have a Spur if i wanted 4 doors for the same reason i would always have a Continental GT instead of this http://www.pmcuk.com/proddetail.asp?prod=LeMans

Because the truth is, despite what the old school Bentley fans say, the modern cars just drive better (in my opinion)

And i cant quite bring myself to base spending 60k plus on a car solely on how they look.

Mark, whats your view on the Aston Martin offerings around this price bracket, V8 Vantage / AMV8 etc?

I had a DB7 and a DB9 they both broke down now and then and were not a patch on a Bentley (in my opinion)

I borrowed me mates Vantage for a couple of days but it was manual so i just didnt like that at all. Thats not to say it wasnt a great car it just wasnt great for me.

At the 50k plus mark i would have a Bentley all day long.

If you are considering an Aston as a 911 alternative, they are in a whole new level of pain for repairs.

I never once had a bill under a grand on either of mine i dont think.

I maybe given those a bad write up there, massive road presence, both mine were v12 and they are fast as **** no knocking it, but i was always waiting for a break down. Beautiful interior.

An XK jag makes more sense and rides nicer for 1/3 of the money, they also dont break down.

I'm not a big fan of the Spur. For me it's not a case of spending £60k solely based on how it looks, but come on, I think we can agree the Spur looks a tad awkward, especially at the back! The Arange has lines that almost sexually tail off towards the end. When I buy an Arnage it's going to be as much a car to be seen in as to drive. I'll have my Gallardo Spyder to drive (yes, that too is somewhat for posing). The Bentley will mostly be used to roll around the city in.

When you go to buy your Arnage just make sure its a 2002 model onwards :) Mind you thats less important for city use.

As for looks i think the FS and Arnage are in the "imposing" bracket rather than beautiful, except those milled metal dashes in the Arnage, now thats a thing of beauty :)

Notachance, I’m going to afford one of those till I’m on the wrong side of 40, i was just interested in your view of them since alternatives around the 40 - 60k mark got banded about.

Interesting that you've had such bad experiences, I would have thought AM ownership would have been much better than that.

Friend at work has an XKR, those have always interested me but i don't really know much about them from a reliability standpoint.

Definitely will be the newer one. I'm not a massive fan of the older blobby front lights, and I very much like the larger 5-spoke wheels and overall "meaner" stance of the 2002> models. It's a shame I'll probably not be able to afford a 2006> one for a while, as a cool 1000 Nm would be nice!

Its not just the styling, they drive like night and day before and after 2002.
