Bye Bye Gti

Very sorry for you. Would it put you off owning another?

Maybe I'm a wimp but I actually make sure that our car keys are easily found downstairs but away from a fishing hook through the letter box. I would rather give them an easy find than have some ***** having to threaten me or my wife for the keys!

Having heard many stories of cars getting stolen by acquiring the keys, I would never take them to bed with me at night. I'd leave them in an obvious place but not necessarily viewable from outside the house.

I'd rather my car was taken than I get threatened or worse for them. Plus I'm a deep sleeper and lash out when woken up prematurely. I'd probably accidentally knock them out and tell the world how I single handed beat them, have my pic in the paper but spend the rest of my dull life knowing full well I'm a moody git and had no idea it happened till I woke up and tripped over some scum seeing stars next to my bed. I couldn't live with myself.

At the end of the day its a car, assumed insured and therefore covered. I'd much rather my car than myself or family harmed. My cars currently being stored at an elderly relatives over winter and I've made sure the car is easily removed so there's no worry of confrontation. It's a sad place to even think about it and have to do it, but at the end of the day its a £1500 car, they can have the damn thing is they want it that much!

This reminds me of when i heard somebody trying to hack my car & i chased them down the road with a hammer wearing nothing but some rustling fishing bottoms & shouting my mouth off. :D
After the frenzy i calmed down to find myself stood in the middle of the road semi nekkid holding my hammer in the air whilst all my neighbours peered round there curtains at me. :o + :D

I did post a thread about it but can't be ****** to look for it, Fun memory though.

Aye the keys they took had house & work on them too so locks have all had to be changed this morning.
It was an 05 Gti, leather running on 18" sunroof etc. the works, I would get another if i could afford it but i'm expecting bad news from the insurer when they get back to me with the 'book' value of the car. Then there's the matter of a €2000 excess charge for the claim:eek:

2000 excess

I'm a doctor.. I've spent the last 2 years on call. But regardless, when you're health/home is threatened the last feeling you have is one of fatigue. Nevertheless, approaching a theif isn't the best of ideas - I'm sure they don't have much to lose.

If you've come down in the middle of the night in your jim jams for a glass of water what, I'm sure you're not going to be most alert you can be....

Glad you and your family are ok mate. I never leave my keys anywhere, they are always either next to me on my bed side table, or in my jeans pocket screwed up on the floor, and i'm a very light sleeper.

I've only got a Punto turbo though, not worth as much, but still worry about it just as much.

Sorry to hear that mate, I hope they track it down for you.

Hope the rest of us can use this as a reminder to keep our car keys safe.

Damn, sorry to hear.. Hide your keys, under your pillow.. :(

No no no no. If someone breaks into your house to steal your car, you want them to find the keys and GTFO. If they have to come into your ******* bedroom to get them, you're in trouble.

If they are in the house and after the keys, it's better that they just find them, unless you want a knife in you or something large and blunt over your head.

Exactly.

Sorry to hear about the theft :(

I'd be buggered if someone broke in for my keys (not that they would for my car). If they managed to find them they would be doing a hell of a lot better than I do every morning when I'm already late for work!

edit- Doh, didn't realise how old the thread was... er... congrats on the M3 :p
