So as per this thread I am very curious indeed (and so are many others) as to how the EW2420, being an LED-backlit *VA monitor at excellent price, fares against similarly priced or even more expensive TN monitors. BenQ's PR department are not able to give me one to test at the moment - so for the greater good of the OcUK community, should I buy one myself and review it properly? :D
 
I'm very interested in a reliable review of the screen. I don't think anyone here is able to tell you what to spend your money on to review a product though!

Is it me, or do the bezels look very big on it? Will be annoying for multi-monitor/eyefinity setups.
 
Haha - but I'm sure they will anyway. ;) As far as I can tell (I am fairly confident this is the case) the VW2420 has thinner bezels at the side than the EW2420 but the actual panel is exactly the same inside. The EW2420 does look a bit more 'solid' in the bezel department I agree, so it may not be ideal for a multi-monitor setup.
 
Wow, I didn't expect you to actually take up the offer!

I for one would be eternally grateful if you could do a comprehensive review on either the BenQ VW2420H or EW2420 or even the BL2400PT, which appears to be another BenQ monitor that uses the same *VA + LED panel but has a better stand. I know there's a load of people on other forums who are also dying to see proper test results of the monitors so it's not just me.

However, as Trifid said, I don't think it's up to us to tell you how to spend your money. £160 is not exactly pocket change, unless you're filthy rich ;)
 
Haha. Yeah I know it's not exactly pocket change... But I haven't been spending much on "myself" recently. I spent nearly that on upgrading the hosting for my website a few days ago - needed unlimited bandwidth because I have so many visitors now :D. I think that's given me the spending bug. ;)

By the way - the EW2420, which does have VESA mounting, is only 1.51mm wider (with same screen size) than the VW2420. That's 0.755mm either side - obviously the pictures are deceiving.

Maybe the slight added width of the EW2420 is because the power supply/adapter is built into the unit itself (which I prefer), unlike the VW2420H where it's an external trailing brick.
 
No landslide in poll= no purchase. ;) I think the added weight of the EW2420 is a welcome thing, too. I have found many LED-backlit BenQ monitors seem to have poor build quality because they are so light. They slide about the desk if you just push the power button! The EW2420 is 6kg of monitor so hopefully it will feel a bit better in the build-quality department. :)
 
At the moment I'm using a Samsung FX2490HD which I'm reviewing. When not reviewing I use a Samsung XL24 as my primary monitor and also have a Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2060u as a reference screen for some reviews I do. There is a reason I am so particular about the image quality of the monitors I review. ;) I also have a Samsung 2032BW on my downstairs PC which is where the BenQ would probably live after it has been reviewed. I'm still waiting for an admin to add a poll!

Well, I'd be interested in seeing a review... But buying the thing out of your own pocket seems like going far above and beyond the call of duty! :o

On the plus side, you will be able to sell it pretty soon afterwards...

I have no intention of buying one though - my interest is purely curiosity about the quality of recent VA panels, since they have become a rarity these days with only IPS and TN panels around.
 
Ask OcUK really nicely if you can review one and then send it back.

OR, buy one, review it and return it under DSR before 7 days.

It's pretty much guaranteed that those "screenshots" are faked with Photoshop or equivalent - they are trying to sell their own VA panels after all.

I'm not saying VA is inferior to TN on the image quality front, it's (by in large) not, just that you should take the things mentioned on the BenQ site with a pinch of salt.

I thought it wasn't possible to return things under DSR if you've opened and/or used the product? Unless of course you're super careful about opening and repackaging so that they don't can't tell it's been tampered with ;)

Yes it is possible - the DSRs are designed to give you the same opportunity to examine a product you've bought online as you'd get in a physical store, and you couldn't very well do that if you weren't allowed to take it out of the box. Having said that, it does seem a bit cynical and against the spirit of the DSRs if you have absolutely no intention of buying the product.

@PCM2: just man up and do it. You know you want to. :p
