**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

First day of blizzcon was pretty disappointing. SC2 had a 2 hour delay at the start, and then a 1 hour break in between all the matches. Over the course of 6 hours we got to watch 4 matches, then the Boxer vs Fruit Dealer showmatch.

The showmatch was really fun though. I won't spoil who won it, but the games were very entertaining. :p

Also, someone broke their leg on the mainstage while doing a Warcraft dance.

...it was pretty funny.

Now facing the same problem with Zerg as I did with T/P. That is, how to build a proper army and attack. Haven't got the con quite right, and I get supply blocked *way* more.

The only problem is I'm not practising against Bronze players anymore :p.

Can only find a full game one so far.

Game 1 Part 1

Game 1 Part 2

I found a partial of game 2 but it's no fun if it skips about 10-15mins of gameplay due to the Blizzcon RayV player lag.
Great match though.

Game two was teh best!! :)

the reason wh ytheres probs not two parts for it is because the signal feed was lost half way through for a couple minutes.

Yea i saw youtube movie of the first 5 minutes of game two and i hope Blizzard release the replays at some point because it was looking amazing. :)

Where are the rest of boxer vs fruitdealer games? I watched the first last night and paused it at the beginning of the second as I needed sleep. The player won't play now though :(

Hmm, some advice from the resident Protoss/Zerg masters would be much appreciated :(

Have been doing well in PvT, alright in PvP (i haz moar colossi!), but PvZ has been going terrible as of late.

Early pressure into expand from a zerg usually lets me win with 3 gate robo, but 100% macro has been giving me terrible headaches. The build goes something along the lines of gas/pool/expand in some order. But now there's a roach warren in there. My gateway units feel basically useless now vs Spine Crawlers (never realised how much damage they actually do!) and Roaches.

I dont feel like I can just expand myself however, as a 100% droning zerg will totally outproduce protoss in the worker count.

The solution that springs to mind is Immortals, with zealots and sentries. Immortals put the smackdown on roaches and spine crawlers, zealots counter any impromptu ling production and sentries do the ramp forcefield business.
Not sure I can get an effective force out in time to really do enough damage before economy kicks in and i start falling way behind though :(

Any thoughts/advice would be much appreciated :)

I find PvZ by far the hardest match up (~1300 diamond). If you open 2/3 gate robo you will really struggle against a decent zerg IMO. Muta/ling really hard counters this build as soon as you expand. As soon as the zerg gets a decent amount of mutas you are ****ed. You need to get some reasonably early pressure out to stop them going macro crazy. People used to go 2 gate but this isn't as effective any more.

I prefer going 1 gate + early starport or start by walling them in with 2 pylons + a cannon (and a zealot by the pylons if you like) into fast expand. With the early starport, get 4 pheonixes out (1 more if it's going well) and use them to pick off queens/overlords (don't waste energy on drones too early imo). If they are going for a spire keep pumping pheonixes, if they go hydras (or if you just don't see a spire) get a robo bay out asap and start getting collosi and prepare for a mid game push. You can't let them scout this build with an early overlord. Get 2 stalkers out asap and spread pylons so you can deny it.

The key to beating zerg is harassment. You need to stop them pumping drones or they will always beat you. Terran have it a bit easier with drops + banshe play imo.

That or just 4 gate them :p

This! Indie used the cannon block on the ramp followed by mass pheonix's. I still can't think of a decent counter! Looks like some Terrans have copied boxer a little and blocking the zerg ramp with 2 barracks with a couple of marines. Even worse is that the bunkers can be recycled and repaired!

Yeah the cannon wall into Pheonix/FE is extreamly difficult to counter as a Zerg. the onyl way around it is a fast nydus while you break out of your main with queen and spine.. and fast hydra. but that leaves your economy trashed on one base and P has enough to pump through loads of zeals anyway. really tough to counter.

Its the same with the Terrans Hellion into Banshee. extreamly hard to counter.

I think NEXGenius vs Loner, the blizzcon grand finals, has the highest skill level of any match I've ever seen. They are so even in skill it's ridiculous, and both of their macro is perfect. These games are ridiculously intense.

Yes they were brilliant games. My favourite was White-ra against Dimaga tho. He got a bit lucky with the blink stalker timing but some of the forcefield use was brilliant. Demuslim looked pretty good when I watched him as well. Seemed quite unlucky to lose to Loner early on.
