Ideally I want to drive 3 TFT's and have the HDMI go into my Onkyo 876 amp for XBMC...so in essence 4 monitors.

Thanks

You can only use the two DVI's or one dvi and one HDMI.

You will need to use Mini display ports for 4 monitors.

DVI - DVI - MDP - MDP
HDMI - DVI - MDP - MDP
thats the only two combinations

So I need to get 2 adaptors?

DVI into my DVI Dell 24"
MD adaptor into my iimaya DVI
MD adaptor into my iimaya DVI
HDMI into my Onkyo Amp

So I order 2 of these?

Hi mate

Im not sure, You need Active MDP to DVI adapters but they cost like £60 each.

the Simple ones you linked to wont work.

the DP to VGA adapters work but you will need to run the DVI monitors via VGA

The entire eyefinity and adapter thing has generated so many threads its unreal

I'm confused...

what do those adaptors do?

Ok

And Active Display poirt to DVI adapter is used much the same way as the one you linked.
BUT is has a seperate power source to be able to sync the connections correctly.

the Display Port to VGA is a simple passive version and works fine.

When Eyefinity first came along if you didn't have a monitor with a native display port input you would need to buy Active DVI to display port convertors which cost £60-£70 a time (Active means powered, power supplied from USB). You can now get cheaper single link Active adaptors like this one at a more reasonable £24 - link.

If you do get these you will most likely need a Display port to mini display port adaptor as well.

Dont think that will work, but not 100%.

As stated one of the DVI slots shares with the HDMI.

So if you wanted 4 monitors you'd probably need the Eyefinity 6 edition, which has 6 mini displayport connections, then you'd need to get the adaptors to convert your monitor connections to mini displayport.

Pretty expensive, but i could be wrong.

Sapphire have a cheaper active display port adapter that should work. I am on my phone so cant link it but if you go into the 5870 section on the main page its listed in there along with cards. I believe it was designed with eyefinity in mind.

Picked up this sapphire active DP to DVI last week and its working a treat, not £60 as stated in earlier posts.

Found mine for £15.99 at a competitor.

So the active ones are if I want to game on 3 monitors and the passive ones are if I want just to extend my desktop for office and windows etc...?

I'll get the card and see what's what :p

I don't want to game on 3 monitors as they are not all the same res so eyefinity won't work

I want to

Game on 24" dell
In windows have 3 monitors for surfing office
And the HDMI going into the onkyo for XMBC

Nice collection of guitars you have there!

Also that desk is too tidy lol

Am I the only one that's utterly mystified as to how the Sapphire Active DP gets power?

I only see 2 connectors, shouldnt there be 3?

I'm assuming it uses the electrical power that's already provided in the DP connection. Bare in mind this only converts it to single link DVI. The more expensive one with the extra USB connection requires more power as it converts the signal to dual link DVI.
