Virgin Media 100Mb Service

Nice to see Virgin Media pretty much making up costs to get the monthly rate to look low. £70 total for installation is mental when it's just a modem swap.

I wonder what happens to the customers who already paid a lot for their 50Mb "install"?

You have a point there. When I went from 20Mb to 50Mb they treated like a brand new install. Had to pay a total of £150. £50 for the modem, £50 for the installation and £50 for first month service. That was April 2009. Obviously it has dropped to £38 a month since Sept 2009 I believe. But if I'm going to pay to upgrade to 100Mb, I'll haggle like crazy. Been with them for 5yrs almost. Service is great but their admin needs work. :p
 
Even tho the current 50mb modems can support the speed it looks like those of us who are on 50mb and upgrading to 100mb will be forced to get the new Superhub and pay for the installation costs.
 
100Mb down / 10Mb up - incredible stuff, can't wait :)

Although the broadband gap in this country is becoming more amusing

I have friends who can just about get 512Kbs in the countryside - with no sign of improvement.
 
When I move house I'll be moving into an area where this will be immediately available. Since I wanted 50Mbps anyway I'll probably get this instead :)

I'll be moving from 2.5Mbit/s to 100Mbit/s what a jump !! :D

Tell me about it,ive recently moved into a small village and this is the best i can get here with a 40gb per month limit.



Ive got a download box with remote connection at my parents house running off a virgin 50mb line so will be moving upto 100mb when available.
 
The possibility of 100 mbit Internet access at home makes my brother's university halls connection (140 mbit downstream [Steam capped itself at 9.8 MB/sec] / 30 mbit upstream) seem less fast than it really is. :)
 
The UK government has put back the timetable to offer a minimum 2Mbps broadband connection to every home from 2012 to 2015.

Well... that's just silly considering my MiFi picks up those speeds (and actually it only gets a little lower upload then my 50meg)

No word of a upgrade :p or a discount from 50>100 :P
 
been waiting for this, registered and will be getting as soon as its available.

Availability: The 100Mb service will be available for sale and installation from December. Customers can pre-register or check availability at www.virginmedia.com/100.
 
home users dont really need 100mbit, but its always "up to 100Mbit", depending on your location. I even think my BT infinity 40mbit is excessive for home use... still im not complaining :)
 
It talks about needing a new modem. I wonder if 50Mbit customers who already have DOCSIS 3 modems will need a new one too. I can't see why we would so that would be activation and installation charge not an issue for us.
 
It seems even tho the 50mb modem can handle the speed you will need to take the new superhub and pay the installation charge along with the activation charge.

Cant remember what the installation charge was when i took out 50mb.
