hi all
i was having a disagreement with someone about how much power a nvidia 480 uses. I think it uses 300 watts at least but the person thinks its a lot less than that. I just didnt want this person to go buy one then find out they needed a new power supply because they think thier 620 watt psu will be enough.

If anyone can help clear this up then thank you in advance

that will be the maximum with a i7 test system

crysis will gobble up a bit less - http://www.anandtech.com/show/3836/msis-geforce-n470gtx-gtx-470-sli/6

Seems like they use very little power.

thanks again stulid that awnsered everything i needed to know.
Looks like the 6 series are quite low demanding. Now if only the person i was trying to tell would actually listen that i was right about the 480 using a lot of power. But alas they are just one of lifes know-it-alls lol

Running a 480 gtx and done some testing with a plug in power meter.

615w with Prime & Fur Mark running
405w with Prime running
503w with Fur Mark running
272w Idle

what psu do u have RJC? because the fella i was trying to tell that a 480 used a lot of watts would never be able to run the prime and furmark tests together as you did with a 620 watt psu lmao

My 5970 uses quite a bit of power at load but at least its a duel card:) I belive it only uses about 50 watts at idle but could be wrong.

I`d like a card which is very powerfull, quiet ,low wattage at both load and idle and where the temps are low at both idle and load............any ideas if such a card exsists? LOL

i`ve had experience with the 5970 and the only reason that would fail my perfect graphics card test would be the load wattage even though its only 10-20 more than my 4870x2 LOL
