fresh windows 7 install on new SSD tonight.

Yep what Jamiman said since it's the same Hardware ID you can just boot up to both witout problems long as it is the Retail version i know this works because i do it.

all went smoothly except my steam games list is like a week solid of constant downloads now :(

Whao, you can simply backup the steam directory if you have a spare drive.

Also highly recommend gamesave manager to backup and restore all your saves. Incredible little app, which solves one of the greatest annoyances of PC gaming :)

you could have just copied over the full steam file and then deleted the .blob regs file steam would have sorted all the games out for you then :)

i have virgin 50mb so when i reinstalled 200gig of games it took like 1 night :)

what is the difference between retail and oem?
OEM versions of Windows 7 are identical to Full License Retail versions except for the following:

- OEM versions do not offer any free Microsoft direct support from Microsoft support personnel

- OEM licenses are tied to the very first computer you install and activate it on

- OEM versions allow all hardware upgrades except for an upgrade to a different model motherboard

- OEM versions cannot be used to directly upgrade from an older Windows operating system

Retail version of win 7 means u only have to buy it once and can run it on any pc you own as long as you only run it on one set of hardware. It's tied to the User not the PC unlike OEM which is tied to the PC.
