nooo! :D he's started dvla reckon a week or so

No, they don't:

The DVLA local office may need to inspect your vehicle and will contact you to arrange an appointment. If they don’t need to inspect, they’ll approve your application within two weeks.

On approving your application, the DVLA local office will send you:

•a confirmation letter to advise the replacement registration number
•a new tax disc showing the replacement registration number
•an authorisation letter (V948) to get your number plates made

So thats two weeks. But wait... the V5 is missing. No V5, no sale, after all. So you've got to wait for the V5 to come through...

So what happens next?

DVLA, Swansea will send you:

•a retention document showing you as the grantee
•a registration certificate showing the replacement registration number
These should arrive within four weeks of getting the confirmation letter

So, in short.

a) Up to 2 weeks to get the confirmation letter.
b) A further 4 weeks to get the V5

Then you can sell the car.

It can potentially take up to 6 weeks. It took me 3 weeks from sending the docs back to having the V5 and being able to put the car up for sale.

I had a nightmare with the transfer of my priv plate when I bought a car and traded in my old from a Mazda dealership. Thankfully they just kept a £500 deposit which they will refund when my old car has its updated V5C meaning they can then sell it on.

No, they cant.

Putting a new plate onto a car? One day, local office, job done.

Taking it off is done by Swansea.

What sellers should do is take the damn plate off before selling the car. Otherwise frankly the plate is yours tbh, it's just stupid.

No, there is no charge for putting a plate onto the car. This is covered by the cost of putting it on retention.

i see would'nt mind it's only a cheapo plate lol :p i wud of give him an extra £50 lol

Looks like a really nice, sound £5k buy. I think I might take a walk down the £5k E46 road.

What would people go for, a facelift saloon or a pre-facelift coupe?
