When someone dies, and their Facebook page is still active and stuff how does one get access to their page without their password/s? (assuming they havn't set remember on log in)

Do you have convince Facebook??

/random thought :p

I'm assuming you'd need a death certificate and probably evidence that you were next of kin or similiar relathionship.

Was in the paper the other day that a woman had to speak to some kind of citizen official board in the US to get facebook to take her request to remove her daughters facebook, seriously. She had to wait for over 18 months whilst people bombarded her daughters page with abuse.

Even if you're dead, Facebook still owns all info you put on your page, including personal photos.

When i was working freeserve many years ago I had a call from a Widow, ringing to cancel the account of her husband. She knew nothing of details for the account, she was an old dear. I asked my supervisor(felt awful putting her on hold) And the supervisor gave me the go ahead to close the account down.

Moral of my story? You'd contact facebook

A relative in charge of the person's "estate" has to send proof of death to Facebook I remember reading.

Not to be pedantic, but its "dying" - unless you are talking about metal work :) [/pedant]

It is a curious thought however; more in the black hat sense that if someone is sitting on something you want, for example "facebook.com/sam" (poor example i know), then you could call up, get FB to close their account and steal said "asset".

Am I the only one who missed the clarification here? Did her daughter die, or was she just a bitch? Why were people abusing her facebook page?

there was a British girl recently, who was murdered by a predatory peadophile who had groomed her thru FB, her FB page was kept online after her murder, & got trolled by the kind of bottom feeders who get there jollies doing that kind of thing.

FB repeatedly refused to remove the murdered girls page until the British police, contacted the US embassy in London, asking them to intervene on behalf of the dead girls mother, and have the FB page removed.

I know that Virgin media has a phone line for cancellations. They can cancel a deceased person's account upon proof of death certificate. It does get on my nerves when life seems to revolve around FB. (Although don't see it as a dig at you Kerplunk coz you started an interesting topic... it's just that FB here, there, left, right & centre does... you know)
