I did mention this in another thread but perhaps this can turn into a 'I did something similar and regretted it' or 'I've had something similar happen to me' thread.
Coming back from Edinburgh we stopped at Crewe to wait for the 8:45pm train to Stoke.
I put my case in the area where the doors are because it was too big to fit anywhere else.
About 5 minutes before departure we were greeted by the chants of "We are Stoke' from returning fans from the Everton game.
They filled up the 1 carriage train, ended up in the door areas and all down the aisle.
The atmosphere became very uncomfortable because they didn't care about other passengers and the abusive chants/language they were using and it could have easily kicked off.
I got worried about our case and at the Alsager stop I decided to make my way to the corridor where 2 blokes had picked it up to throw onto the platform.
I quickly asked them not to and thanked them for giving it back.
One of them said they were throwing it because they had rung me (my number is on my case) and nobody had answered so they thought it was lost so I turned my phone on and there was the miscall.
I once again thanked them and said I never had my phone on.
I now couldn't go back to my seat because somebody had taken it and just sat on my case in the corridor.
About 30 seconds later the bloke who had rung me started to pick on me saying that 'I didn't ******* care that he had saved my case and shown concern" but I emphasised over and over that I was grateful.
It got worse and worse until he was forehead to forehead with me and I just looked at the floor.
This sounds like I'm a right puff but I asked him not to hurt me because my family were on the train and pointed to my wife and a young couple we had adopted coming down from Edinburgh who were going to Alton Towers (and they were so scared).
He then aggresively told me to get out of his sight before he caved my skull in and I had to take my case and move into the busy aisle upsetting a few.
When we got off at Stoke I made sure we were last off and stayed on the platform for a couple of minutes (Mrs Poole had no idea what was going on).
Anyway fast forward to about 30 minutes ago I get a phone call with the last 3 digits I recognised -
Hello is that Mr Poole?
Yes it is
I'm the bloke from the train last night
I know, I recognised your number
I am so sorry for what happened, I had a bad day and a few to drink
I could tell that
I really don't want you to think that I'm like that and I would not have hurt you, it was all show
Well you did scare the **** out of me and in front of my family
I know, I'm so sorry and I had to apologise, are we good?
Yeah we're good
I did send you a text about 1am in the morning after I thought about what I'd done
I'll turn my phone on and read it, anyway thanks.
Text reads -
Sorry to give you **** on the train mate. You just caught me at a bad time. I called you as I thought you had left your bag on the train. Hope you have a safe trip.
What a nice football hooligan.
