I did mention this in another thread but perhaps this can turn into a 'I did something similar and regretted it' or 'I've had something similar happen to me' thread.

Coming back from Edinburgh we stopped at Crewe to wait for the 8:45pm train to Stoke.
I put my case in the area where the doors are because it was too big to fit anywhere else.
About 5 minutes before departure we were greeted by the chants of "We are Stoke' from returning fans from the Everton game.
They filled up the 1 carriage train, ended up in the door areas and all down the aisle.
The atmosphere became very uncomfortable because they didn't care about other passengers and the abusive chants/language they were using and it could have easily kicked off.
I got worried about our case and at the Alsager stop I decided to make my way to the corridor where 2 blokes had picked it up to throw onto the platform.
I quickly asked them not to and thanked them for giving it back.
One of them said they were throwing it because they had rung me (my number is on my case) and nobody had answered so they thought it was lost so I turned my phone on and there was the miscall.
I once again thanked them and said I never had my phone on.
I now couldn't go back to my seat because somebody had taken it and just sat on my case in the corridor.
About 30 seconds later the bloke who had rung me started to pick on me saying that 'I didn't ******* care that he had saved my case and shown concern" but I emphasised over and over that I was grateful.
It got worse and worse until he was forehead to forehead with me and I just looked at the floor.
This sounds like I'm a right puff but I asked him not to hurt me because my family were on the train and pointed to my wife and a young couple we had adopted coming down from Edinburgh who were going to Alton Towers (and they were so scared).
He then aggresively told me to get out of his sight before he caved my skull in and I had to take my case and move into the busy aisle upsetting a few.
When we got off at Stoke I made sure we were last off and stayed on the platform for a couple of minutes (Mrs Poole had no idea what was going on).

Anyway fast forward to about 30 minutes ago I get a phone call with the last 3 digits I recognised -
Hello is that Mr Poole?
Yes it is
I'm the bloke from the train last night
I know, I recognised your number
I am so sorry for what happened, I had a bad day and a few to drink
I could tell that
I really don't want you to think that I'm like that and I would not have hurt you, it was all show
Well you did scare the **** out of me and in front of my family
I know, I'm so sorry and I had to apologise, are we good?
Yeah we're good
I did send you a text about 1am in the morning after I thought about what I'd done
I'll turn my phone on and read it, anyway thanks.

Text reads -
Sorry to give you **** on the train mate. You just caught me at a bad time. I called you as I thought you had left your bag on the train. Hope you have a safe trip.

What a nice football hooligan.

Decent for him to apologise, shows he has a conscience.

[platinum87] If he did that to me I would have hit him [/platinum87]

Hmm his conscience is clear, but I don't I certainly don't act like that when I've had a few. He still sounds like an idiot.

In vino veritas.

Sounds like the whole situation could have been resolved with a swift triple tap of a Mac 10.

Not really an excuse, sounds like a thug who probably has previous so was trying to cover his own backside.

But in general football thugs are just that, people who shouldn't be allowed to drink and use it as an excuse to act like a total ****.

KaHn

What a scum bag, and to add insult to injury an apology after, no mater how sincere to me it would be like rubbing salt in the wound.

I didn't have 3 minutes.

I tell you what was weird and not taking my incident into account.
The average age was around 38 with blokes older than me and they were all acting like thugs.
It amazed me that they still sing football songs from the 70's like 'Terry Conroy on the wing'.
There was a point where Mrs Poole asked me what they were doing and I said simulating smashing up the train.
She looked at me as though I was daft and I told her to watch them.
In slow motion they pretend to slash the seats, kick the seats apart, smash the windows and bait each other with 'Ooh, you're too much for me' and other such things.
I told her that back in the 70s football specials were little more than Auswitchz carriages but thugs have gone beyond that now because they want comfort.
Weird.

Football

The world would be a nice place if it were gone.

Don't be such an idiot/drama queen - plenty of football fans are fine (myself included, QPR season ticket holder). I hardly ever see any trouble but well done for the stereotype.

Stoke fans are a different breed in general, they rank alongside the Welsh and Leeds when it comes to thuggery.
