Just wondered as a mate of mine needs a Macbook pro within the next week, but he ideally wants the 15" with a high res screen and 7200rpm drive. Any idea how long this takes or does it vary a lot? I've never ordered a custom build from them myself so I thought I'd ask :)

Cheers

Ah ok cheers for the fast replies :) He'll most likely just get a stock version then. The hi res shouldn't be a big deal as I think he's got a monitor he wants to use with it anyway for photoshop. For the HDD I guess you could just get a 2.5 drive from ocuk and swap them over? Would probs be cheaper as well. However if he was to open up the case wouldn't it void the warranty?

If he is getting an external monitor then I think stock is fine.

The 1440x900 res is a nice easy to read res for general surfing and stuff.

Also I've swapped the 320Gb 5400rpm drive in my i5 MBP to a 500Gb 7200RPM, and no it doesn't void the warranty.

my MBP took 2weeks custom build and yes the high res is a big deal

When the screen is closed and hooked up to an external monitor, which he'll primarily be using, I'd imagine it isn't a big deal. I'll see what he wants to do anyways. Not sure he can wait any longer than 10 days really. He's got assessments due in early December ya see.
