5870 vs Metro 2033

Yeah have both DX11 features turned off as they are really worthless to have on in the game then again i've noticed DOF to be bad in a lot of games so i rarely turn it on in any.

Also 16xAF will barely drop your fps in any game especially when compared to any shadow related gfx options.(except for games that do not do them so well.)

Well its good to know that a 5870 at MAX settings with out tesselation and Depth of field can max the game out!

However Im yet to confirm, what options are on and off for me in the Dx11 options.

LOL... But thats not maxing the game out. Maxing a game out is turning every single setting on and turning every single setting up to its max.

I personally like DOF in this game and for me it makes the game look far more realistic.

Metro2033 makes my 5970 struggle even on lower settings.

Metro maxed out pushes my 480's when they are overclocked by nearly 30% to 890Mhz. I get a around an 70-80% gpu load when playing this game at 1080p with vsync on.

I will confirm later once I fire the game up how many of the eye candy settings I can turn on.

I didnt create this thread as a means of showing off!! I was just expecting the game to punish my system and was suprised to see how easily it was running thats all.

You will be getting better performance than the 1gb 5870 as metro uses 1.3gb of vram when maxed out at 1080p.

Awsome, great to know that the extra memory is actually proving useful!!

Ahh, maybe this is why they developed and recommended Nvidia Cards for the game, becuase of the extra memory on the 470 and 480 as standard.

I believe Metro runs best with a single GPU setup !? It seemed a lot smoother when turning crossfire off last week..

hmm i almost wish i had ordered a 2gig 5870 so i could have that as main with the standard one as the 2nd card

Its probably something to do with crossfire drivers as it runs fine with dual cards in SLI. Allot smoother than with one card.

I can confirm I have every single setting turned on in DX 11!

I have Antialising set to AAA and AF set to 16x

Physx is off, but Depth of field and tesselation are on!

This game is running like a dream! Runs better than Crysis warhead!

I am not having you on, game is not demanding at all!

The 2gb vram must be playing its part!

Just to confirm settings:

Res: 1920x1200
Quality: Very High
Dx version: 11 (Depth of Feild = on, Tesselation = on)
Antialising: AAA
AF: 16x

Try 4xMSAA, as AAA is the lower of the two settings.

Your vram will be helping you out. Also the lack of physx will also help you.

metro shouldnt be using over 1gb of memory when i played it i had msi after burner open and it hoovered around 800-900mb @ 1080 with 4x msaa

It uses it on my setup. What card have you got mate? Did you max out the game?

See I thought things like Anisotropic filtering and Anti aliasing where things that needed procsessing power (i.e the gpu core would have to processes the filtering)

However it now seems that its not processesing but rather memory that plays a more important role. I think gone are the days where 1gb or vram is more than enough.

The new standard will be 2gb. There are even some 460's with 2gb of vram!

AA is gpu intensive but it also needs memory especially at high levels of AA. The higher the AA setting the more memory it needs.

Metro is the most gpu intensive game I own along with crysis.

Man never thought this game was this good lol its fantastic. runs super smooth on my system 5970@950/1250 with 8800GTS @650/1520/960 for Physx.

Graphics are great everything in the game is maxed out with 16af AAA though i have never met a game that taxes your system as much as this game does seriously 69c on my 5970 lol even Ugine engine benchmark doesnt tax as much or crysis lol
