Best electric shaver that doesn't feel like it is ripping the hairs from my face

Whenever my beard length gets a tad beyond the stubble stage, shaving with an electric razor is PAINFUL. It feels like it is plucking hairs rather than cutting.

I put this down to bad razor choices. Anyone experienced the same problem and solved it with a particular electric shaver?

I've had a couple of electrics and still experience the same problem. Have a Remington at the moment which is pretty good. Try using scissors to cut away the longer parts before shaving?

I had one of those Phillips ones that moisturises as you shave sort of thing and that helped make things a little more comfortable.

I much prefer the DE Razor though, takes a little longer but so worth it.

I just shave my face with my hair clippers.

This. I have a set of remington hair clippers which with no guard will cut from 0.6mm to 2mm in length. Then just run it all over. Haven't shaved properly with foam in over 3 years.

Try a stubble trimmer first?

I brought one of the Babylis i-trims in my first year of uni but found that if your hair grows flat on your face and not out then it was absolutley useless. Results in you tipping the clippers at an angle to get a cut and then getting an uneven shave.

My vote = buy some adjustable hair clippers and run them over your face. Cut the rest of your hair off while your at it too.

I've got a Philips one that has a beard trimmer attachment, you can run that over first then have a close shave afterwards.

The trimmer is really good, I don't actually bother with the close shave any more just use the trimmer. I don't know what model it is, it's a few years old now but I'm sure they'll have something similar out now.

This.

Whenever I am lazy and don't shave for a few days it gets too long so it hurts when shaving, I then have to use the trimmer first and shave afterwards.

I tried a Braun once but that started hurting even sooner so now I have had a Philips for years.

Here is faz's guideline to shaving, Since i have thick hair (Iranian heritage) i have all types of problems with shaving, from razor bump to ingrowing hairs.

this is what works best for myself although i still have to be careful and i cant really get a close shave, more so with electric shavers.

Basically if your going to have a close shave the best bet is a normal razor, none of these fancy "replaceable ones" just a good quality disposable ones.

Ideally, its best to do it after a shower but if you don't have the time just wash your face with warm water, you will want to use an exfoliator which helps lift the ingrowing hairs and allows to soften the facial hair. (decleor facial scrub)

then if you have some (if you dont i highly advise it) invest in a mineral based serum, it is like an oil that will soften hairs even more and help the blades glide over your skin, around 2 drops, then pat it over your face (the key word here is pat not rub)

once you have patted in properly you can then apply your shaving foam, its best to use good quality shaving foam, after all it is your face.

Lather it up in your hand and smear over to a damp/wet face and make sure you work it in well.

Get your razor and start shaving, the key is to shave in the growth direction of the hair, this helps prevent ingrowing hair and razor bump. there is no need to press hard and usually going through once is good enough.

Remember to swill the blade after each stroke with cold water, once you have finished all of this wash the left over foam of with lukewarm water, and apply a moisturiser.

Jobs a goo dun!
and watch the ladies smile

Electric shavers are only decent if you have fair hair.

hope this helps.
