Now that Win 7 has been out a while...

I think its much better than Vista,Its more responsive and imo looks better.

7 is what Vista should have been,I actualy think M$ made Vista a bit crappy just so they can get more sales on 7...who knows.

You know how some meals taste nicer the next day warmed up than when you first made them? That's basically how much better Windows 7 is than Vista.

...How much better do you think it is than Vista?

Problem is Win7 is based on Vista anyway so any improvements you have Vista to thank for the groundwork.

Personally I had no issues with Vista especially after SP1,not to meantion drivers are now thick and fast for both Vista and 7 nowadays(remember you can even use Vista drivers on 7 at a pinch),so I would have to say its an improvement with older/slower hardware, however stability wise its the same for me since I had no issues in that area, boot times etc same for me since I have both Vista and 7 running sweet.

Some problems with Vista I would even put down to user error as well, believe me you would be amazed at some of the excuses I have heard where it turns out to be faulty hardware and not the OS,problem is everybody likes to blame Vista when most people don't have a clue what they are talking about.

Bottomline Win7 is an improvement on Vista with older hardware but Vista is still a good OS in its own right, anybody that says otherwise should not be building or using PCs and should stick to consoles.
Win7 is probably best OS so far by Microsoft IMHO ,I have high hopes for Win8 to be even better ,only time will tell if I'm right.

The fist public beta made vista look like a bad joke, so why are you asking this?

Actually, it didn't really.

The only reason people keep saying things like this is because when Vista came out for the first year or at least until SP1 at the earliest, driver issues and bugs within the OS were common.

The bad taste from this first impression has always left a Vista = Poor vision in people's minds.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Vista once the service pack/updates have been installed and currently the only real additional benefit from Win7 is the feature additions to Win7 and slightly uprated memory/cpu handling capabilities.

Vista after SP1 was fine, never had a problem with it.

Win 7 however is just a much more refined experience than Vista, even from day one it was a better OS in every way.

As an early adopter of MS OSs (I got Vista Nov 2006), I can say that this simply isn't true in my experience.

I echo these thoughts. I used Windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit from release and had no issues with it what-so-ever. I found it an absolute joy to use over the terribly dated Windows XP. I upgraded to Windows 7 64-Bit on release, although it wasn't a big jump I still feel it was well worth it. I find XP a bore to work with now, it should've been dead & buried a long time ago.

I'm still using Vista. The changes in W7 just aren't that great to warrant doing a format.

I fear that most of the people that wrote off Vista too early are attributing its own features to be what makes W7 so good because they never gave Vista more than 10 minutes to convince them.

W7 also benefits from mature drivers. Drivers that matured under Vista's watch.

I'm not being "anti" W7. Merely highlighting that it isn't all its cracked up to be. Yes it's better than Vista. But if I had to put a figure on it? Probably around 5-10% better. As you would expect really for a minor point release (Vista was NT 6.0, W7 is NT 6.1).

Despite how much I liked Vista, I would never go back from 7.

You're right, there aren't that many changes, but tbh, the UX has improved immensely. It just feels so much better to use and that's really hard to explain. All those little changes really do make a big difference. A difference that I feel I wouldn't want to be without.

The additional features of Win7 are well worth the upgrade and I paid for Windows vista Ultimate back in the day too.

Taskbar pinned + Jumplists alone just does it.
