Hi,

I'm looking to get buy an Android based mobile phone and was wondering what's the best phone out there for £100 or less?

I know 'best' is a bit vague but I don't know how to be more specific other than to say that the camera isn't all that important. WiFi would be good, although I'd imagine this is fairly standard these days?
Would like a touchscreen (not sure if they do non-touchscreen versions) but not too bothered which type.

It's going to be a Christmas present (hence why I can't be too specific, as I don't really know).

The other thing, and probably most limiting is that it really needs to be on Orange unless there is a really stunning deal/offer/phone on a different provider.

Thanks for any suggestions.

The sanfrancisco..my wife has an lg gt540..its ok but the orange is far far better...of course you could have just read the mobile phone forum...what the hell is the matter with you!

A Orange San Francisco and since you're a orange customer you should be able to get it for £80 over the phone without much trouble.

I have to admit the Orange San Francisco was the one I was looking at getting, but thought I'd ask here in case I was missing something else.
I did look at the Motorola DECT, but that's £129.99 or something, which is getting a bit too expensive really.

Thanks guys.

Wont order for a week or 2 yet, just in case something else comes out in the meantime.

I was looking at the SF too, seems really good for the price. Two questions though. Can it be unlocked to use with t mobile? and is it upgradeable to 2.2?

I wonder if theres any alternatives at the same price point coming out soon?

There are a range of budget phones being released onto T-Mobile in the US in the next couple of weeks, so I'd say it won't be long till they show up here too.

T-Mobile Comet: Also known as the Hauwei Ideos, available Nov. 3 for $9.99 after $50 rebate and two-year contract. Also available at Target, Radio Shack and Best Buy for less than $200.

LG Optimus T: Available Nov. 3 for $29.99 after $50 rebate and contract.

Motorola Charm: $49.99 after $50 rebate and contract.

Motorola Defy: $99.99 after $50 contract and rebate.

Defy

Charm

LG Optimus T

Comet

Cheers mate.

The Motorola Defy looks like a very good alternative. Has a better camera and higher capacity battery. Doesn't say if its a capacitive screen though. Might wait and see if this comes to the UK!

Edit: it does have capacitive screen. ooh it also has 800mhz processor 2gb memory

edit 2: noticed its on sale for £320 :( unless its the wrong model...
