Coffee Machine?

If she's just drinking instant at the moment then using ground/whole beans is considerably more expensive too...

He means because his mum only wants to drink black coffee, rather than espressos and caramel machiovele latés with frothed milk and automatically dispensed chocolate sprinkles teleported into the machine from brazil, he could get a cheaper machine.

Save youself a packet as there is no need to buy a coffee machine.

Get a decent cafetiere for around ten to fifteen quid, a coffee grinder for around 20 quid and try Pico Duarte beans from Wittard's of Chelsea of which there are outlets around the UK.

If your mam likes black coffee, the above set up will do nicely.

Well as little as possible, but also no real upper limit..er, max spend £50 but also budget options as well? I love my coffee, but I drink it sparingly as I try to keep my caffeine intake low. I only drink it at the weekends in the mornings.

The novelty never wears off!

I don't even drink coffee, but even I love my new investment

It's all a matter of taste really (see what I did there)!

An espresso is "just black coffee" made under pressure with a machine. I will not drink instant cooffee ever as I think its duisgusting and much prefer freshly ground beans. I'm lucky as my mate's an air hostess for Air NZ so she brings me in a fresh supply of freshly roasted beans a couple of times a week which pleases me.

Seriously though, if your Mum's into fresh bean-based coffee, but doesn't drink it every day then the Gaggia may be a bit much. An Italian aluminium stove top jobbie is great and in my view, much nicer than a cafatiere brew and just as easy to make.

Maybe you'll make a Barista out her yet!

That Gaggia posted is a bit of a bargain by the way for anyone interested in getting a decent coffee machine.

I always say if you are budget constrained, start with a good burr grinder (hand, or electric if you have >£60) and just use a French press. Fresh beans and a grinder are 65% of great coffee.

Then get an espresso machine later if required!

Edit: Not so much of a bargain now. For a while the Classic was quite hard to get here in the UK and pricy. It's a great machine for ~£250.

For the last 3years I have been using a budget machine and it produces an excellent coffee.

Dialog expressivo simple and works well, pretty unbreakable as well:-) and was only £150 about 3years ago so should be cheap now
