Hearing the report yesterday on the bbc about the man who was blind and has had a microchip implanted in his eye which then converts what the eye sees into to signals which the brain understands and hence he has some form of vision again, made me think about how much of what I watched in sci-fi films and read in books is starting to come true.

eye thing here btw: http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience...akthroughmicrochipimplantrestorespartialsight

The x-ray screen which people walk past from Total Recall is not that far away seeing as we have the static ones in airports now.

Controlling computers with just your thoughts is here already.

Exo skeletons are in trials with the army as we speak.

Looking back how far we have come in the last 40 years since 1970, just where do you think we'll be in another 40 years?

Which bits of sci-fi will become reality?

there's an older man at work who sometimes still can't believe he has a hand-held device that he can communicate to people with just like he used to see on star-trek.:)

Food will become a hobby / past time, we will have little pills we take 3 times a day to keep us alive with enough vitamins and calories (even though calories are currently in the process of being discredited as we speak).

Internet that can be used everywhere,be reliable, with pretty much immediate downloads, no high traffic issues and getting most of the UK ISPs bankrupt:rolleyes:

On a slightly more serious note, we are probably about to see keyboards that are formed out of laser beams in the nearer future. It wont revolutionize desktops but it will be very useful for tablet PCs and smart-phones.

Good luck with maintaining your digestive system without any fibre.

IDK when I think of "future" I always imagine like on back to the future were they turn up at that house with a tiny thing stick it in the oven and turns into a massive pizza :D

Which reminds me weren't they putting some remastered one on at the cinema?!

I predict we WILL discover clean, re-usable energy in our lifetime. It will come about through various projects that are currently in motion and the LHC is most likely going to be one of them.

BTTF has been (and maybe still is) on at the cinema.

I'm hoping they re-release the other two.
