Which Sci-fi stuff will become true in your lifetime?

Now that they can decode a DNA strand in 3 weeks, I would have though in the next 15 years after medical testing times, there will be some custom medications.

I dont think we will, the guy that decoded the genome has been saying the benefits from decoding dna have been overstated.

After all dna is just the blueprint, its not the result.

Proteins is probably where its at.

I think within 40 years or so we will see treatments which extend lifespans or retard ageing.

Food will become a hobby / past time, we will have little pills we take 3 times a day to keep us alive with enough vitamins and calories (even though calories are currently in the process of being discredited as we speak).

Can't wait, I hate eating Vegies. A true VR system would be cool, think how cool it would be to play UT3 in VR.

Maybe when in situations were you eat to live, but the humans have turned eating into a social aspect of life, i will eat my hat though if food ever becomes something as meaningless as a pill :)

best thing? A renewable energy source that isn't rubbish.

I'm thinking cold fusion ..

Plasma arc gasification?

Quantum computers are well on the way.

Dumping my mind into a robot would be pretty good.

Human life extended by up to five times, already a reality of sorts, been done on fruit flies and worms, basically they've figured out the end of a dna strand gets more frayed the more it replicates, they've figured out how to massively reduce this.

Cure for the common cold, plus other virii, that was on the news yesterday few years away of course. Replaceable body parts is a given, teeth will be great of course.

Some sort of wifi link embedded into the skull would be nice to link up to cyberspace, getting a virus would be a bugger mind.

On a slightly more serious note, we are probably about to see keyboards that are formed out of laser beams in the nearer future. It wont revolutionize desktops but it will be very useful for tablet PCs and smart-phones.

we already have them, however they're terrible, it's incredibly irritating typing on a flat surface with no tactile feedback.

unless they're huge pilsl you won't you need X amount of X, Y and Z molecules a day, that amount can only be compressed so much.

and with massively concentrated doses like you're suggesting you have all the trouble of it completely messing up your body/ things like osmosis/diffusion.

Shields perhaps, there's been some discussion about using energy fields to block out radiation for deep space missions- maybe we'll see something of the sort for the Mars missions.

What i want is some proper Augmented Reality that's actually usable. I'm thinking Heavy Rain style. It's all well and good playing with AR on an iphone and finding petrol stations, but some proper AR would be totally awesome.

I thought one of the problems was that we're so use to the keys on a standard keyboard depressing when we press them. So when we 'type' on a laser keyboard on a table say we're more likely to get RSI because the table isn't depressing when we type a certain character.
