Scariest movie you've seen?

Alien when I was about 10

This. Trouble is when you get older you realise how films are made, and they stop being scary.

You realise which characters will stay alive, and which won't. You understand that Hollywood demands a happy ending in all but the most extreme cases. You know that the main characters will be saved no matter how desperate the situation appears.

In short, films stop being scary.

However - I should note that I spend my early childhood reading Stephen King and other horror authors. I scared myself stupid as a kid reading books until midnight, then having nightmares about them.

After that, nothing fictitious scares me. I'm very scared about things that happen in real life, however :p

I have rec 1 + 2 lined up for sat night with the gf, don't really like horror but it'll be fun.

Are the rec films quite sound based? Thinking going double headphones rather then tv speakers.

Well you won't be understanding any of it ;)

Ummm.. I wouldn't say they are that sound based to be honest. A bit less then everything I've watched recently imo. I just use my logitech Z4 2:1.. fine tbh at a decent volume. Obviously not the total movie experience but yeh ;)

"Scariest" film ive ever seen was Arachnaphobia. I wouldnt get in my bed for about 3 nights after watching that spider crawl into the guys bed and kill him *shudder*.

Just read this thread.

Remember seeing The Grudge years ago (was a copy IRC) and was with a girl. But can't remember being scared.

Will need to re-watch.

Hola! Im fluent.

I mean, slow creeping music, building suspense for the ultimate jump moment, etc etc etc.

Well anyway, i'll watch it and see, don't want it spoiled.

Most terrifying moment in a film for me is actually not a horror movie at all, it's the end of the diner scene in Mulholland Drive. There is a real sense of dread leading up to it and then BAM in your face! - my god i've never been so freaked out:eek:

Oh look, someone agreed!

You know my opinion on this subject, why point it out every time? Fact is, scary films just don't get made any more.

There have been way more scarier films than aliens though, obviously outside of Hollywood but there have been scarier films nonetheless!

Because it's funny!

Khaaan said what I wanted to. There are scarier films, it's just that you haven't come across them.
