The traditional motability scheme which exchanges your disability living allowance for a serviced, insured and taxed car does not allow the purchase of Mitsubisi Lancer Evolutions.
 
It's a bit like saying my 530i is a company car because I get a company car allowance. It's not a company car, it's my own. :)

This is correct and is called the 'Contract Hire Scheme'. This is what the vast majority of Motability users have.

The other option is the HP scheme, where you still have to buy your car through a Motability dealer, but have the choice of any of the models that manufacturer offers. The HP scheme means you have to insure and service the car yourself.

The HP scheme is essentially a loan using your motability allowance (at 10% I must add!). This would only ever make sense if you could not get a regular financed loan (as many disabled people can't do, due to insufficient employment etc).

Remember that if you're disabled you're still eligible to zero rated VAT, although many dealers are refusing to honour this after some disabled Olympic athletes abused the scheme.

With regards to the car, I dislike the neons an awful lot. However remember this is the OP's first car. Remember when you had your first car? I'm sure some of us made mods that weren't enitrely in good taste. It is all about some individuality and I think that if I was constrained to something under the mobility scheme, which needed to fit a wheelchair as in this case, then I'd do something a bit different to my car. OP doesn't have the choice of buying an old but interesting car as his first so is seeking to trick out what is a pretty boring MPV to be a bit different. Not to my taste as I said, but enjoy it.

Yes indeed. It is like a right of passage I feel. At 18 I got a pimped out Ford Capri with dodgy body kit, tinted out windows and mis-fitting XR2 pepperpot alloys hammerited in a matching colour. All in bright white. In hindisght I looked like a right **** and people told me so at the time, but I thought I was the bees knees.

He's a pretty shocking human being. Not for his 'condition' but his attitude and actions.
