EK9 about £5.5k for an average one. Even more from a reputable importer in a good grade condition

Mental if you ask me but i've never really liked them, far to expensive for what they are when you could have a B18C DC2 in good condition for that money

I won't be paying that much for a tidy one, but I fail to see why you think a DC2 is a good buy for the money, but an EK9 is not.

Except, I told you I'd be purchasing a tidy one for less than the sum you speak of.

The engine may be "superior" (read: a little bit more powerful), but the EK9 is a fair bit lighter and a next generation "chassis" as well.

It doesnt matter, if you want one and you're willing to pay that kind of money for a 10-12 year old 1.6 Civic that most modern diesels will walk over in a straight line then more power to you, its just my opinion and not to be taken as gospel, i'm just saying if I was parting with that much money for a ten year old Honda it would be a DC2-R I cant see any reason why anyone would want an EK9 over a DC2 other than having a particular attraction that shape Civic, rarity, thats all I can think of to be honest

If you get an EK9 mike, keep the purchase price to yourself, as you'll get lots more abuse:p

It amazes me how much these are offered up for.

Now civic of the same shape >£1000 EK9 - £5k - £6K.

It just beggers belief that these cars can hold this kind of price tag.

This thread and the other thread mentioned Imprezas - For £4K (its a bit more but £4K would have it) theres a Version 5 Type RA on ebay. Lovely car, recent rebuild, will go like stink after a map (I know its almost identical to my old one)

And it will own an EK9 - especially one driven by a complete chump on the M4 thinking he could worry a female driver (Mrs Eddscott in this case :) )

Mike - Why have you gone for a small family hatchback that is slower and older than your last small family hatchback?

I wouldnt refer to an EK shaped 3 door Civic as a family orientated car at all, they are particulary small inside and the reclining seats are an absolute pain in the arse not to mention the seat belt return thing that on every one I have owned does not return the seat belt

Civic ~ Focus?

Same point though, seems like he's taken a massive step down and backwards and gained either another car or £5k~ (?) cash?

Huh? There is almost nothing between them in a straight line and they are almost identical on track? I chose the EK9 because it is lighter* and easier to find a clean example of.

If that 15bhp and little bit of torque ever bothers me, I could always get a B18. By the time you've sold a good B16b on, the cost is minimal.

I'm not sure I'd describe the Focus as small at over 4.3m long and 2m wide, nor would I describe an EK9 as anything remotely close to a family hatch back.

Horses for courses, I had one car that did both jobs OK, now I will have two cars that both do their individual jobs very well. (EK9 for fun, Focus for cheap family motoring) :)

Once again its just my opinion so no need for the huh? Its not factual info I just dont get it and i'm stressing the point that I dont get it, you just said yourself you'd fit a B18 yet they are identical in performance, it makes no sense what so ever.

Is an EK9 really worth owning for 1 or 2 maybe track days a year and that much more fun than the Focus for your weekend/fun driving?

2 lots of insurance, tax, tyres, servicing and so on for two cars which put together for me seem like she equal one Focus ST.

I've never driven nor ever even been near an EK9 though.

No, the Huh? was that you compared an EK9 to a diesel, yet it is similarly matched to the DC2 you said you'd buy.

The cars are very similar in performance, yes, but then the EK9 would be faster with a B18 wouldn't it :)

Peerzy, I've always had two cars, so insurance, tax, tyres, servicing etc. is irrelevant. In fact, it'll probably be a little bit less all together.

I made plenty of mention to maintenance, you're doing that thing again!.

No, YOU are doing 'that thing'. Do I really need to quote your opening reply in that thread? You didn't mention it until later on when you had loads of backlash and were trying to retreat from your original statement.

You can't see it - everyone else can but you cant.

What I don't get is how the EK9 is suddenly a complete wonder car perfectly suited to everything which you appear to know a lot about yet...

..you've never mentioned it before, it isnt in your OP as under consideration and infact its first mention came after you've made an offer on one

Are you sure you've not just found a 'cheap' example for sale down the road and subsequently convinced yourself its the best choice?

I've seen a diesel Bora beat a DC2-R you might even find the vid on youtube I wouldnt buy either for straight line performance, in fact I dont think I ever have bought a car for straight line performance and as I get older the less interest I have in it.

I cant remember the weight differences but a lot of people who buy EK9's (see EK9.org) fit B18C's to them, again.... I just dont get it. Theres only so many times I can say my point without getting a little frustrated and i've already said if you want one then go for it personally (repeating again) I think there are better options for the money but if it had to be a DC2 or EK9 I would definitely get a DC2

No, this example is about as far away as can be from me, but I'll be getting it for a very good price.

I hadn't considered the EK9 before, as they were mostly over budget for tidy ones. I've found a clean one within budget :)
