Anyone got any recomendations for 5.1 headphones for use with PS3 for gaming? It would be great if I could use them for blu-ray movies too.

I'm also interested in these, but for 360. Also - I'm running my 360 through my Onkyo 607, but would like mic functionality as well. USB direct to 360 & amp on mute? Is that the solution?

Astro are releasing their new wireless mixamp later this month which is also something to think about, I'm seriously considering getting one from the States as it'll be a while before they're out over here.

Have you got a link to that I quite fancy an upgrade to wireless as long as it performs exactly like the wired version it will be a worthy purchase.

fwiw the batteries never died quickly in my X41s though I did have the odd feedback issue on the mic.

The feedback issues are up and down tbh one friend on XBL has them and has 0% feedback, the other friend I have with them I can hear myself the game and everyone else constantly through them.

Before anyone suggests volume he turned them all the way down and I and everyone else in the lobby could still hear feedback.

Thinking of treating myself to A40s and the new mixamp for Christmas, shame the damn shipping from the US is so much though it does include import duty.

Be better if they could give some idea of the UK release.

ive been looking into this but if i would prefer a headset so i dont have to buy a mic seperatly but they would only be used for the ps3 so i cant really justify spending £100+ on some headphones. im basically down to the 2 options i have found of.

a, get a ps3 mic and wear it on my collar with a set of 5.1 headphones with the mic talk set to come through the headphones

b, get a 2.1 headset such as the PX21's as these seem to be a reasonable price and would cost similar to a new set of headphones which im in need of and a ps3 mic which i also want

GTanny the x41's have a adaptor you can buy separately to enable mic chat on the PS3.

yah but there quite pricey for my needs, had a browse and the rainforest has about 4/5 different headsets coming out within the next week or so all aimed at COD:BO including official ones.

but looking on TB's website they also have the DPX21's coming out soon and they are basically the PX21's with surround sound so i may hold off till there available in the UK.

5.1 headphones are terrible compared to stereo headphones with Dolby Headphone mode. The latter will give you a better surround sound effect while having better sound quality.

...however it's more tricky on console to connect them up and then you have to worry about having a microphone. If you have an amp that does Dolby Headphone it's easy to get the sound but faffing around with a mic is annoying indeed, hence why so many just get the all in one headsets, despite being inferior.

Just get a pair of Sennheiser HD555s or Goldring DR150s, will be far better than any of these 5.1 headsets, which aren't actually 5.1. The effect is quite poor really, I've had them before and compared to Dolby Headphone they are naff as hell.

...but unless you have an amp you will only get stereo, though to be honest I'd much rather have a decent stereo set even without Dolby Headphone than a pair of overpriced, underwhelming Turtle Beaches.

TL;DR version: Stereo headset/phones + Dolby Headphone = YAY, 5.1 headsets = run away while you still have your money.

astro mixamp plus a great pair of headphones = win. I'm using my mixamp with hd555s and its great. For mic I use the standard xbox mic around my neck with the boom pointed to the mouth. I'm so use to it I dont even feel it. I use the mic directly into the pad then mix down the game volume to balance it up to voice volume then boast the lot though the mixamp.

Yup that mixamp, while pricey compared to what it would cost you to get Dolby Headphone on PC (£25 vs £100) is probably the best option. :D

...though with the 555s or so though looking at well over £100!
